I think Smoker will come back

The issue, however is that even if Oda gives Smoker a fanservice clash with Luffy like Lucci got, it’s just not possible for him to be a real rival for Luffy anymore.

Luffy will beat Kizaru this arc. Afterward, the only admiral that will still be a threat to him is Akainu. Smoker is just irrelevant as a Luffy fight tbh.

Hence imo when Luffy fights akainu, I think Smoker will either fight Kid or Law.

I feel like Kid might make more sense than Law. Just because Law already fought Smoker and we already know Law is stronger. However Kid lacks the mobility to easily dodge Smoker’s sea stone, and hence would probably have a harder time.

I think Oda could do Law vs Koby instead, as they both have a past with the rocky port incident. By EoS, I think Koby should be on Law’s level.

But I think Law vs Smoker might still have a good chance just because Law tends to be more relevant than Kid, so I could see Oda just focusing on him while ignoring Kid.

Don’t really see the point.

Why would Smoker care about either of them? He’s been after Luffy from the beginning because he could tell Luffy had the potential to be like Roger. Everything that has happened since then has proved Smoker right. He’s not going to go after two gimps who have been thrown out the race to be Pirate King instead.

Powerlevel wise, Smoker needs a gargantuan boost to even put up a fight against Jinbei. If he’s going to get a massive boost, as I hope, might as well go full hog and put him at a level where he can fight Luffy, regardless of how little it makes sense. If Oda can do it to Lucci, he can do it Smoker, who’s been around longer and is more important.

Smoker doesnt care about Kidd.
He doesnt care about Law either and is in his debt, kinda.
He and Luffy promised to fight again when Smoker is at his strongest, Awakening incoming.
Smoker is the most relevant Marine character aside from Coby because he too has been introduced in the first 100 chapters.
If Garp could have been Roger's "rival", Smoker can be Luffy's "rival" too.

The thing is

Akainu is Luffy’s big marine rival. Which basically makes Smoker the Kidd of the marines.

Akainu is Luffy's biggest marine rival. MF set that up. He killed Ace and scarred Luffy

Smoker is just the marine equivalent of Kid/Law

If you look at how Smoker was treated in PH, Oda had him fight Law, not Luffy.

Sure, maybe Smoker can get his 5 second rematch against Luffy like Lucci did. But he has zero chance of being an arc villain, like Akainu does. The best he gets his a 1v1 with Kid or Law.
