Yes you can but since when is the anime canon ?
Akainu was scared of WB in the anime, should we take it into account too ?
Zoro exploded with haki against Kamazou, the scene exists in the manga as well without the dbz bullshit, is it canon too ?
Sanji fled against P1, canon ?
Akainu was shocked that WB was behind him he wasn't afraid in the anime

the zoro scene doesn't contradict the manga it introduces the art style required to portray zoro's haki.

The anime made P1 vs sanji more coherent and logical.. and the Manga never covered what happened next... anime as an adaptation and since the anime doesn't logically contradict the manga its Canonical

Drake vs sanji was different tho it the manga zoro alone ran towards hyori ti save him with sanji pausing in his fight with drake for some reason and reacting to zoro saving hyori but doesn't tell us what really happened ti drake and why did he just do nothing when sanji had his guard down for a fairly long time.. . and in the anime sanji approaches hyori after he beats drake.... so more narrative is given and made the story mire logical

this alteration is due to page limitations, Oda mentioned that he has alot in his mind but can't portray it due to page limitations.. the only logical solution would be to use anime to fill the gaps.. and now it logically make sense..

Mistakes like gear 2 in Sabaody were called out for and oda confirmed it was mistake.. but Drake vs sanji and Sanji vs page 1 was never called out for it

plus just for contractions oda has his personal editor editor there as a scenario supervisor.. so if something logically contradicts the theme of the story or characters... he'd be there to point it out..

that said its not primary canon... manga is.. if something is obscure and hasn't been covered then its ideal to refer to the anime since it gives more narrative.
