Are they the one who did it or was it Imu? Remember post Dressrosa when Akainu implied the CDs and Imu going behind their back and doing shit as they please?
Someone could've very well threw Who's Who in Impel Down to shut him up about it (not them)

I think we need to wait for more explanation before we judge it. Yes, things are shaky now, but not completely without explanation yet to call it shit writing. Oda likes to withhold information while giving us more questions a lot.
Not to call you out specifically but this is another problematic line of thought.

“Because it’s One Piece and we’ve had previous examples of good long term story telling structure and payoff, we can overlook bad writing in the present because it will all be worth it and make sense in the end.”

I’m telling you this as a regretful AOT fan and someone who’s been disappointed by a lot of media, the potential of future payoff is a really bad way to excuse bad writing in the present, since it almost never goes well.

Let me show you exactly why Oda hasn't planned this properly

here they are very dismissive of the fruit saying it's a legend that hasn't awakened for 100s of years EVEN FOR THEM.

then in the spoilers we have this

"The “World Government” tries to keep the “Gomu Gomu no Mi” with them in every era... But, somehow, the fruit always gets away. And 800 years have passed...!!"

Now the same fruit that they were soooo dismissive of they now talk about how it's so prized and how they try to capture it in every era.
Exactly, with this we know that these 5 guys were not immortal and this position is inherited down.

Imu has previous goroseis and they cant keep the gomu gomu within their posesion.

As to why these previous gorosei hid its name, we still dont know

Luffy is going to defeat a Yonko seemingly mostly due to this awakening and you don’t think it’s power is a big deal?

also who the fuck cares about this guard? You are saying the symbolic power of this fruit is more dangerous than even Kaido to the government… So it should be possible for Luffy simply being Nika to bring about a force greater than a yonkou right?

Like the amount of power Luffy should attain just from BEING Nika should be greater than Kaido’s entire force… Since it’s all symbolic… So how many people know about this?
Oh I see now, you were just arguing in bad faith, I will no longer engage with your retard roleplay.

Symbolic threat? You don’t think Luffy has actual powers? You think the government fears symbolic power?

okay. Who is this a symbol to? Like who know what Nika is for it to be symbolic enough to matter to the government?
This fruit aside.

The WG does fear symbols. Remember Ohara? They didn't allow Clover to say the Ancient Kingdoms name. They were listening calm enough until he was about to say the name and they freaked out. Like Clover said, the fear the ideals of the AK, rather than the power.

I actually can just feel bad for them

They didn't had any choice on their lives, they were born to be literal mindless soldiers and Judge's puppets

The fact that they cheered for Sanji by the end of WCI is awesome to see because it not shows them almost being "grateful" towards Sanji's kindness for saving their lives, but gives us a glimpse of how good brothers they would be if they weren't designed to be trash by their own father
I don't know how Oda can draw people getting litteraly tortured in the same chapter as a looney tunes fight :usoprice:

It's one chapter. Oda could just very well be going over the top here because of it's introduction.

And let me ask you, do you honestly think Luffy having a special Devil Fruit is going to change the dynamic of Luffy overcoming his last obstacles in the series?

Blackbeard has two of the most busted Devil Fruits in the World, and the possibility of having a third.

Im is an entirely different anomally.

Oda giving Luffy a special devil fruit, is indicative of what's to come in terms of the strength of the Villains. It's not going to change anything. Luffy will still have to come up with creative ways to beat his opponents. Oda will never change that, and you know it as well as I do.

If Oda ensures that, then I'll likely have no issues with this down the line

But I'm not gonna hold back my critiques for what's going on in the present just because there's a chance for things to be rectified years down the line, as I have no qualms with changing my stance
