Yeah they had surprisingly somber deaths but the issue is that Oda does so many fake-outs that it's impossible to tell when it's actually real.

Reverse himself (plant man) and go back underground, travel and regrow himself from anywhere to attack and dodge, create fakes himself that way too. Control/manipulate spores/pollen. Use other plants on nature as a mean to scout. Manipulate the property of his ability (soft/hard).
