I'm willing to bet actual money that Sakazuki's island was raided by pirates and he was subjected to seeing his family and village raped, tortured, killed, etc.
From that day he swore to kill any and every pirate scum no matter what it took.
It's a great backstory but kind of telegraphed.

To which Kizaru says "I refuse, I have my own ideals to keep."

That's a direct contradiction to "I am just a cog in the machine."

Oda is clearly cooking something with Kizaru.

We got battleship bags and backstory with Kuzan and Garp, and we're clearly set up to get something with Kizaru.

Meanwhile, Kaido had one page of backstory.

Because one of Bb ship was already at egghead. We have seen one of his ship in previous chapter while BB defeated law

And, BB can't move from winners island to egghead in one day.

We don't know what they said, also there's no problem in him suggesting to spare Sentomaru as he's going to (try to) kill a Yonko, Vegapunk, etc. anyway.
One little request to spare one person should be a good trade off.
