The fact is this time we don't even see the charging of the hits and it's just one panel, whereas against Kaido there were plenty.

Luffy always fought 100% against the bigger guys, as he should, and Kizaru even explicitly honored Luffy on this.

But Oda is like this.
Visuals are always all over the place.

I tell you the truth that Kizaru line feel so stupid since we saw the Kaido fight and saw luffy using 2 version ACoA and ACoC and saw it many time during the fights even before he went G5.
It just kinda make that panel feel like panel so we can get luffy to G5.

So, Luffy went through the Laser Grid twice, and took a decent amount of damage from it.

This is interesting because it proves that lasers can damage Gear 5, meaning Kizaru's light based attacks with be more effective than I thought. I bet Luffy will find a way to bounce at least a few light beams back, though, he'll probably get the hang of it the longer the fight lasts.
