There's a truly ironic darkness in such a "bright, light" man. Thats a great point. Maybe he's as "hollow" as the light itself? A true consequence of the merciless brainwashing of the Marines and WG? The ultimate soldier? He's more obedient than Akainu and thus loyal, although Akainu is extremely driven towards his targets/goals too.
Oda could really write some beautiful, tragic nuance of how Kizaru is a "hollow man", a man "now a shadow of his former self", serving the World Government "blindly" (which is hilariously ironic as someone pointed out that Fujitora is the literally blind one but the most "woke", the one who sees the "truth" the most, the one most aware etc).
Imagine if he was a pacifista somehow? Or he just feels like one, relates to them? A man barely existing, masking his emptiness, his apathy/anhedonia by a nonchant/blasé attitude or trolling/snark at most?
His character fascinates me a lot and he's pretty hilarious when he wants to be or not even intentionally. Oda really humanised Kuzan even more lately, like he's been depicted in the past, especially in Film Z too and funnily enough, that film also added some nuance/depth to Kizaru too.
This is why I like the Admirals so much too, I don't support their agendas, their loyalty and subservience to the WG and whatever the WG makes them do, especially harming and killing civilians and doing corrupt things, rewriting/deleting history and such, but I really like them as characters, how nuanced they are, how Oda tries to humanise them and show them as not entirely evil or black or white, more gray area, more complex than that.
I feel he tried to do the same with Kaido and Big Mom but he really fucked it up imo. They were on the verges of truly being exceptional both of them and they should have been by all means, but Oda dropped the ball on them unfortunately. I think hes too biased with the Admirals too given what he's said about them in the past and thus who he's based them on especially.
I feel Blackbeard is the best contrast to Kizaru in many ways but he can also relate to him in some ways imo, I would have LOVED to see them clash and their personalities, their beliefs collide and we get deeper insights into their characters from their interactions, not to mention darkness and mr black holes vs the man of light itself.
I like how remorseful, apologetic he seems at times like here, almost like he doesnt want to be doing this, that he has to do this for whatever reasons he has, as part of some secret agenda/plan of his or that hes involved with others on or he feels trapped, that he has no choice, that he's helpless and he wishes he could be "free" and "feel joy again", to feel alive and human again like he did from his childhood, as evident from Odas childhood drawing of him too.
The WG really tries to make the Admirals into their emotionless, completely obedient super soldiers as IRL governments/dictators do with their militaries ofc and it also parallels Judge and how he treated his childen and his clone soldier army too ofc.
Stuff like this is why I do really enjoy following One Piece and still do to some degree, especially when I see posts like these that help me understand and appreciate the series better too.

"Collateral Damage". In a way, he really parallels Kuma too, doesn't he?
