Rayleigh couldn't outmatch an admiral while Luffy fought that same admiral off. It is clear that this chapter is meant to portray gaban as a legend who would give luffy a difficult fight, but he isn't in his prime and he is not capable of beating admirals or legit emperors, at least not anymore.

It was in fact the opposite my guy. Kaido was spamming named moves and giant AdCoC attacks while Goofy was running around and laughing and making attacks on the spot.

The fact is that base Luffy’s rival (Kaido) was never a match for Nika unless Nika was trolling and having fun.

He still killed him while Sanji was carrying him away. It's just the natural progression of power after beating Kaido. Gaban can't beat Nika, neither could Kizaru or Saturn.
