The issue is Blackbeard shit himself and ran away, when he's supposed to be much stronger then Doffy. I was just using Doffy as an example that Rayleigh and Gaban could probably scare away all past villains for fun. Oda did have Doffy cuck to Kuzan right before his arc for no reason though.

Another interesting comparison. Gear 4 debute was in chapter 784 in which Boundman dogwalked Doffy from activation till end of the chapter. Oda had fodder comment on how hard Luffy beat his ass.

Exactly 100 chapters later in 884 Luffy activated Gear 4 on Kuri and smacked him around, but Kuri's back didn't even touch the ground and he recovered and countered the living fuck out of Boundman. Katakuri even commented how he is STILL dominating Luffy. When Doffy tried to attack Luffy he bounced off of him like a fodder.

A chapter later Luffy ran out of G4 after doing jack to Kuri while Doffy had to take an entire round to the chin and only survived BECAUSE Luffy ran out of gas.

Watakuri is basically a more complete version of Doffy, having advanced CoA and CoO in his pocket. I think a healthy Doffy starting out with awakening against a healthy boundman would've easily worn Luffy out though. The fact Luffy could barely stand, looked like hell according to Sabo and had to tear for 3 days, is testament on how Doffy even while severely weakened prior to the usage of awakening, wore Luffy down.

I'm not disagreeing. I pretty much always had Doffy YC1 level at worst but based on his DR feats he can't beat Kuri, in fact, I don't even think he comes close. Kuri is just the strongest YC1 imo. Oda gave him everything on top of being a milestone fight for the MC.
