BUT, for story purposes, all Davy D. members are buccaneers is what this chapter seems to imply.

Tbf the most important info here is that Teach is likely a Buccaneer, which will explain all of his "his body is a little different" comments people had about him and possibly how he managed to eat 2 DFs.
But we don't exactly know what is so different about buccaneers aside from being partly Giants. Vegapunk mentioned a special ability of theirs in Egghead. Might be it.
