On Shonen Jump's cover, we see Luffy eating some giant meat. Now, you could interpret this a lot of ways, but I'm pretty sure this is a metaphor to show us that...Luffy enjoys meat! Oda, you master of subtlety, you've done it again!
And we got a color spread, too! The Strawhats are diving under the ocean with some sea animals! Given everything we know about the rising water levels around the world, and how much of the old world is covered by water...this actually could be a sort of preview for the future of the manga, perhaps. Usopp is being chased by a shark. A purple shark. So...could Arlong be coming back? Or maybe Usopp will be the one fighting the S-Shark Seraphim in the future. Who knows? Also, Nami's cozying up to a King Seaturtle. Given how long seaturtles live, and the fact that it has a crown....part of me wonders if this turtle is a parallel for Imu? I don't know, it's not impossible that Imu could get redeemed by the end of the arc. Unless, of course, Imu did something really violent towards one of our main characters, or something. But, what are the chances of that?
We start off with showing what seems to be the first time that Imu and Joyboy ever talked to each other. And...Joyboy seems to have just called him up on a Transponder Snail, if the text boxes are any hint. It could be a radio or just some sort of phone, too, it's hard to say. But, it's kind of interesting that THIS is how these two seemed to meet.
Imu attacks Luffy by using his flames to stretch his arm. Which...basically mimics the way that Luffy uses his Devil Fruit. So, if Imu IS using his Devil powers to mimic other Devil Fruits....is that the case with ALL of his attacks? Like...that attack that mimicked Mihawk's downward thrust? Could that have been a hint that...Mihawk has a Devil Fruit?! Eh, it's too early to say what any of this means, right now. But, there have been some theories out there that Imu's Devil's Fruit is actually the source of all the other Devil Fruits in the world. So, we'll see how this plays out.
There's some pretty decent back and forth in this phase of the fight. Luffy's taking the majority of the hits, here. But, he's also pretty squirrely and it seems like it's hard for Imu to really land a accurate attack on him.
And then Luffy busts out Gum Gum Majin. That's...new. I think there's a little inspiration taken for this design from Hakushon the genie from the old anime "The Genie Family". At least, that's what this design reminds me of, mostly due to that nose. I wonder when Luffy came up with this? And...why? This seems pretty random, even for Luffy. I guess the idea might be that if you're fighting a "Devil", you have to use the power of another type of "evil spirit"?

And Luffy thought Loki was dead! Don't kill Loki off so casually, Luffy! Luffy only seemed mildly upset about that, but I guess he's only known Loki for a few hours, max.
And Ragnir was TOTALLY prepared to sacrifice himself to save Loki's life from Imu's attack! Such a brave little guy! Such a good little squirrel hammer! Good thing Ragnir has cuteness-enhanced plot armor on his side!
"The World Government...is always shrouded in mystery" That feels like foreshadowing for...something. I wonder if there's some deeper hint there in the original Japanese that doesn't really translate?
We get a callback to WAY back in Chapter 320 when the Strawhats fought Aokiji on Long Ring Long Land. So, yeah, the Strawhats DO have some history with dealing with being frozen. I'm not sure if Gunko's going to be friendly once she's unfrozen, though. Part of me wonders if the other Strawhats will end up having to fight her until they can knock a little sense into her. If only to give all the other, weaker Strawhats someone to fight while all these other fights are going on.
And Imu is starting to put together who Brook is, since they have technically seen each other before.
Imu's naginata seems to just be another one of his little devil spirits. And he trades it in for a sword, instead. The Sword of the Wailing Void! Cool name! Hopefully, the official name is also pretty cool. And it kind of reminds me of Roger's Sword Ace. Imu's in kind of a similar pose as Roger had once, too. So, maybe Imu's powers are just about copying different abilities from throughout the past and history? Although, we have seen a LOT of swords in this style, lately. It could just be a sword-design Oda's falling back on lately.
This sword seems to be draining the life out of Yggdrasil, which probably isn't a good thing for Elbaph. I guess I'm not sure if the sword is "draining" Yggdrasil's life force, or just poisoning it. Either way, not good for a old tree that was just on fire a few minutes ago.
And Luffy gets run through by Imu's sword! Right through his chest. That...that looks pretty bad. But, Luffy's probably FINE, right? This is probably a shadow clone or something...RIGHT?! Yeah, he'll probably turn into a chunk of cheese or something and smush himself back together again.
Luffy's "X" scar is about to become more of a "Star" symbol. Or...perhaps the kanji for "water"? Hmm...

"Joyboy would never be this weak." Hmm...with as much hinting as Oda's been doing, lately, part of me wonders if we'll actually be getting that Void Century flashback sooner than I thought. Probably not, since I still feel like he'll save that for Laugh Tale. But, you never know.
AND...there's a break next week. ARRRGH! Of course. Ugh...and you just KNOW Oda probably isn't going to go straight back to this fight. We'll probably focus on Zoro or Sanji's fights when we get back. Oh, this is going to be PAINFUL. This is one of the bigger cliffhangers Oda's given us in a while. Poor kabob-Luffy, skewered like the meat he loves so much. Hey! That Shonen Jump cover actually did kind of foreshadow this, after all!
