Don't say it is a sure thing :

Either Orochi don't care at all about his family and Kaido told him that he killed her.

But if Orochi cared a little bit about the old hag (he has knew her for a long time, and she helped him a lot) maybe to not weaken his alliance with him Kaido lied to Orochi.

Why is Oda so obsessed with creating so much controversy in fights?

1v1 fights on equal terms where one character wins because he's simply stronger seems to be forbidden to use as a concept for a fight.

That blackmail plot was totally unnecessary, it just dehyped the current main antagonist of the coming battle.

Because he can just say Kaido got stronger
