Oda cheated on Oden, everytime Oden had chance to prove something Oda played his hand, first there was a clash with WB to hype him after that he had chance to battle Ray or Gaban but Oda put Roger on work to cast away Oden, Oden Vs Kaido- the legendary cut followed by a knockout blow to his head. like wtf.

His strength hype was mainly limited to him giving that scar to kaido. But oda emphasized enma more in that regard...
Apart from that his hype was related to wano bandits and protecting wano which doesn't need much emphasis.
But above all oden was important from the perspective of having ability of VOAT, his traveling with Roger to raftel and knowing true history and his purpose of opening the border which is what oda emphasized consistently...
