Him being like that is his characterization.
It comes with an asterisk, and not an absolute rule, yes. People might be disappointed about it, but this was already apparent when we saw the flashbacks pre-Marineford and saw WB more caring about Ace´s safety than taking revenge on BB at all costs, it´s consistent with that at least.

But they were all dead, that´s the difference, at least presumed to be.
WB´s sphere of responsibility, first and foremost, is his crew, nothing else.
And family is something you create in One Piece, not born into, i think this has been made abundantly clear.

And if we spin this even further, something that was stated several times, WB was also someone who always considered his role within the world and his function of basically holding the reins of the New World.
He mentioned this in Marineford, Doflamingo stated this in his throne speech, he was a fundamentally different type of pirate than Roger was.

So yes, i see a very clear distinction between "let´s go save our mate who is alive" to "let´s go avenge the dead".
Find me a place wb said he doesnt wanna avenge Oden or Oden is dead

He agreed to avenge Oden /save wano but he feared losing men.

It's not about vengeance or Oden dying but rather the casualties

Some gross overreactions and an evidently desperate attempt to pounce upon anything without putting any thought to it.

Do people forget that WB was willing to let go Thatch's death because he had a weird feeling about it?

Did people forget prime WB usually avoided unnecessary smoke with fodder marines or that he didn't want to take Oden with him because he thought dealing with Wano's royalty would be a pain in the ass.

So you're telling me he gets to know about Oden's death after a few years and should suddenly put all of his crew at risk of a war for a supposedly dead person or help his country just because people are suffering there?

Comparing that with the Ace situation is being horribly disingenuous to both the situations.
Flashback of oden is lame though but we have to remember WB was equally fearful pirate .

Oda kind of didnt do enough homework on how to handle powerful character who died years ago.

He's talking about all the rising rookies pirates present in Wano, but okay:optimistic:
I am sure even die-hard Zoro fans understand this but Zoro is at the center of this conversation because the whole thing is happening when King and Queen are trying to prevent Marco from taking Zoro to the rooftop while Marco is trying to do the opposite which creates a huge opportunity for Zoro fans to wank Zoro.
