Sanji has used it three times in anime now (first against Daifuku and twice in the new episode). If anime designers are not doing it as pure fan service, we have to accept that Sanji had Hardening or awakened it before/during WCI.

So you are assuming it is just fan service or he had it from the get-go? Don’t forget, Oda is inconsistent in terms of characters’ power development. Sanji went from being a neg-diff fight for Blueno to frying Jabra in few hours or so in EL, we shouldn’t be thinking logical about character development in OP, since it doesn’t make sense anyways.

Context: Hiyori Screams. Sanji goes Ham on Drake, defeating him and then rushes to her defense before Zoro butts in. Episode isn't over yet so Drake could get up but wow, people here are going to get heated. PageOne is mentioned'flashed back to but idk what they said.

one thing I'll say (as someone who writes books) is that the changes in the anime are probably a result of a scene being redone a year later. Read Seven Deadly Sins, Male Vs Zeldris is different in the manga and the volume because the author went back to redo that. I'm pretty sure what we're seeing in the anime in certain scenes is a second draft. Same with Zoro Vs Hawkins which looked more epic in the anime, same with Luffy Vs Kaido.

This one does stick out tho. other skirmishes had the video game cut scene thing where they always lead to the manga status quo, this one leads to Drake defeated which didn't happen in the manga. On the other hand, with the knowledge that Sanji will fight Kinf or Queen, it's something that can easily happen and this there won't be any power scaling jump in the anime like there appears to be in the manga.
