I still think the blade is tying back to the tattoo. Either Oda Fridged another strong female swordsman who blackened that blade (wouldn’t be outside odas normal writing) or Ryo made that blade black after she died to honor her

My assumption is the former, but wouldn’t be too shocked at the latter.
