Okay so made this thread just to clarify some numbers and perception about One Piece's decline in sales and since the info is scattered I'm gonna try my best to group it all here


So let's start with the obvious , One Piece is the most sold Manga of all time and here's a rough list of the top 5 :

1- One Piece 480M
2- Golgo 13 300M
3- Dragon Ball 260M

So yes at the end you can clearly see that One Piece has been slowly declining overtime since it's peak at Marineford (2011) but I feel like people overreact recently cause Oda has been taking more and more breaks thus we have less volumes per year thus less sales

From 2019 to 2020/2021, Oda clearly started to prioritize his health more and started to take more and more breaks thus going from 4 to 3 volumes and I hope he keeps it this way and not overwork himself

Dude, just look sales per volumes. Dropping as hell. Fishmen Island(people like to say it's the worst arc of OP) have volumes selling 3+mi while Wano arc can't even reach 2mi mark.

thats just the hype coming off marineford not the quality of the content , if we go by sales then KnY is a masterpiece (which's not)


there has been a steady decline as i said cause the story is getting longer , im just wondering if it will ever reach another peak like MF before its ending

Difficultly. Even if Oda were to make another arc at Marineford's level, it would take many volumes for new and old readers to catch up with the current one. Sales will only increase at the EOS as it is natural for many people to buy the volumes to keep.

Why not KnY is a masterpiece? I'm anime/movie watcher only, so can't say if KnY is better or not than OP. But it seems KnY did in less time(chapters) what OP needed to do in 600 chapters. Both works needed anime to reach those levels tho.

Wano is suppose to be better than Marineford, and Final War better than Wano. OP dropped quality. Period. You can't argue that Marineford hype last until WCI and at Wano everybody dropped.

KnY is what Oda wishes Wano could've been had he not failed horrendously.

Funny that the decline in OP's sales during Wano coincided with the boom in KnY's. Both are about Japanese swordsmen trying to kill oni, yet one went on to have unprecedented and record breaking success across the board, whilst the other completely dropped the ball on almost a decades worth of build up and has the sales in decline.

think I'm missing something here how is any manga a "Masterpiece" the word masterpiece is being used so loosely these days its insane

like if i had to make a list of mangas that i read that i would consider masterpiece there would be 2 at best

Not sure what your point is but there is absolute no problem with a bunch of manga being considering Masterpiece. As long One Piece is none of them.
