Whitebeard was much more of a king. Much more realized as both man and pirate than Roger could ever be.

Roger was a failure as a pirate. Too soon to do the quest of his dream. Got sick and wouldn't live long. Plus couldn't raise his own kid and watch it grow. Not only that but his own name, famous and past put a curse on Ace that made him end up killed. So yea he did a bunch of things but his main goal in life wasn't concluded.

Whitebeard by the other side is way different. He wanted a family he got one. And he made sure to protect it. And he did it. No one mess around with Whitebeard or anyone related to him.

So people try to say Roger was greater for being Pirate King when Whitebeard never wanted any of that shit. Is like saying Rodrigo Hernandez is a greater athlete than Michael Jordan just because he won Ballon d'Or. Which is ridiculous.
