As a character she isn't bad. I mean she has different shades of personality and Oda has emphasized all aspects of personality well

Problem comes up with her status of being yonkou - one of the strongest pirate and she not living upto to it

All the disappointment stems from she not living upto the hype of a yonkou thus the disappointment.

If you talk about her personality then she is fine.

As a yonkou she isn't.

So, I will give her 6 or maybe 7.

I think there was a certain level of hype for me when she was introduced. However, throughout the course of WCI and Wano, my impression of her didn't really live up to the hype. The wedding cake chase and O-lin act being a huge let down, but getting her hunger satisfied and taking control of WCI was a good moment. Then clashing with Kaido and fighting it out with Law and Kid was alrigth too.

Overall, eh, 3/10.

Feels like most people can't separate power levels from characterization and that most people have an obsession with cool and stoic looking/acting characters.

When it comes to characterization, Linlin is still a 9/10 in regards to what Oda has been able to write and not like a 9/10 in general if compared to other series.

She is one of Oda's best written character in regards to story, characterization and complexity. Other Villains are pretty two dimensional. For everyone constantly complaining and bitching about how Oda hates her character, he clearly does not since he adds more plot points to her every little chance he gets. He clearly enjoys drawing her in one way or the other. Do I wish he would stop making so many gags about her? Sure, but not all characters can be stoic badasses. She is one of the few characters in recent times that you can point to and say that this character actually has a unique personality.

You're all jumping the gun extremely early here if you think that this is the end of Charlotte Linlin or if you think that her portion in the story is over.

I'll reiterate what I said months and years ago. Everyone that dislikes her just has super generic taste (which is fine, this is shounen afterall) and often times, they conflate how well a character is written with their powerlevel headcanons. The only thing I get salty about his her constant PIS nerfbats. Apart from that, coming from Oda I think she's as interesting a character that he's written.

Anyone who thinks this is the last of her or that this is how her story concludes is likely a hater full of wishful thinking or is falling into the pattern of believing what everyone around them is parroting.

Overall if we discount Powerlevel bullshit, she's a 9/10

With powerlevel, it drops to 8/10 because I don't think she's as disrespected as many people like to believe. She's just one of those characters that will always get downplayed no matter what they show. Like we have people shitting on her despite recent showings in an situation where the PLOT is 100% against her.

I like her. Not quite the time to judge her yet, she can end up between 6-8 for me so I give her a 7.

+ her character background is great, that flashback from WCI is easily in my top five. I love the less is more approach that Oda took to that era, and how she guards that past. It's actually like my great grandma, lol, because she would get nearly as pissed if someone tried to "pry."

+ little shit like Streussen's relationship with her and faith in her, after all those years. Again it makes her life seem fuller. Along with the food theme is the idea of variety, which we get from her army of children.

+ great motivation. Harmony by way of a kid from every race? It's both a weirdly juvenile idea tied to her past and something actual adults can understand. And unfortunately, there are tons of world leaders who also think of attaining peace with an iron fist, so she is uniquely relevant in the series.

- her versatility in character and abilities make her a little confusing. Oda gave himself probably too much to unpack

Solid character with a very good backstory and motivation to build her Kingdom.

Apart from that Oda just completely ruined that character on-screen by making her far too goofy and annoying than her position as an antagonist should've allowed. Now, 99% of the fandom is praying for the chapter where she's written out of the story.

Same tbh, what you wrote there is what I feel as well.
One reason why I haven't changed my avatar from that bet(aside that we don't see her defeated in this chapter anyway) is to show my respect towards her. So yeah, Linlin is a great character with sadly wasted potential, but that is simply Odas fault since he wrote her that way.

Big mom just seems like a worse-executed version of kaido to me.

Both villains have a lot of interesting depth and backstory that makes them incredibly compelling foils to the main character and allow for some nuanced comparisons with roger and the greater world at large. They also have layers and interesting backstories.

However, with big mom, her interesting elements aren't being thrust to center stage like kaido's are. And what we really have left is a character is mostly unfunny gags and a big threat for the protagonists to overcome.

An important part to writing a great villain is giving them a great downfall (plenty of examples of this in OP). Big mon falling to sell the next generation of pirates and end of an era was a plot point thats already been echo'd a few times already in punk hazard and dressarosa. It ultimately falls short of her being defeated in a more interesting and personal way.

5/10

-8/10 Powers: Her abilties were well developed, being one of the most diverse DF user, with some cool uses of the soul powers besides the battle focused ones.

-9/10 Setting: Totland was a very cool location with one of the best designs in OP, and all the system o Soul Tax, the ministers, the islands being one themed on one kind of Food, the mirror world, etc mde it feel like a really functional place in OP verse.

-5/10 Flashback: liked her FB, basic but well made, build up some more development for other parts of the world like CP0 and Elbaf, and set some bases of her character, nothing incredible, but ok.

-2/10 Personality: That the part i hated most about her, the ideia that BM was the smartest of the Emperors was hinted some times, with her planing all step of her moves and having a huge information network, but at the end this wasnt show when the character was on panel, as most of her action were totally emotional driven, or a result of her having a mental disorder, that made her a giant kid, i understand that this connect with her FB, but if her empire is buld up on the fact that she is a "natual bonr disarter" them it shoud be much more like Kaido one based on strengt than on alliances, information and conections like was set up to be.

-7/10 Crew: Her crew was ok, with what seems to be three main groups, the Sweet Generals operating as the main force with their own fleets, the minister and childrens operating as the governing force of Totland and the "crew" itself with Tamago, Bobbin, Pekons, etc working outside of the territory. Some members over got a big development like Katakuri and Pudding, with minor one like Perospeo, Tamago, Pekons and Brulee also getting some time to shine, i liked her crew, but thinked they would get some more fights in WCI to show more force, as besides Katakuri, BM and Perospero, none of them seems like a threat.

-1/10 Wano: think before Wano she would rank higher, but her participation in Wano greately downgraded her, with Kaido and his crew as the main villain, she was sidelined and become a lesser threat, and was used as a bad plot device, and even a joke, sometimes.
