Straight plain battles are probably the least interesting type of battles there is. I missed when we used to have mountain/forest guerrilla warfare strategies.

Shin manages to take out an enemy general (technically a great general) at the climax of the battle, and it's presented as just another day for him rather than being treated as a moment worth remembering.

Now, this arc is about to end because Han, as a whole, is being handed defeat on a silver platter.

I'd say A-tier is a bit too much. It could've been a B-tier if Hara had expanded upon things.

The Tou/RKK centre battle in particular could've been done a lot better imo.

Idk, I just can't put Han or Hango in the same tier as Sanyou and Bayou.

These 1-day battles that barely last 20 chapters just don't do it for me.
I mean that's respectable. But I'm also taking into account he can't repeat the same set up and styles of the previous arcs, while also having to tell a history that has dozens of more important wars on the way. Thus the requirement for arcs that speedup some of the wars that Hara doesn't find to be as major as WZI.

With this arc focused on politics, emotions of citizens during conquering, and a different viewpoint of burden of enemy royalty during a conquest. The battles were quick and on to the point, rather than getting dragged out, while keeping the focus on the political drama which would and should be the front and center of the 1st conquering of a state.

Now it’s over, it’s a 7/10. Good battle, fun arc. Not a classic but cool to read and reread.
Yeah, 6/7-ish sounds about right.

The Han trio provided a nice breath of fresh air from Zhao, looking forward to what Hara plans on doing with Yoko Yoko.

Shin was also desperately in need of a classic Rinko-esque fight and the HKK fight satisfied that urge, it feels like it's been so long since we've had one of those.

Eitei and Touse plains would've definitely benefited by being a bit longer though, thankfully it's not a mess like Hango, every general involved has a clear role and the battle doesn't abruptly end.

Binged the whole thing after a year of hiatus.

Political drama was actually good, especially when the series has been lacking in that regard ever since Sei became the official king. But again, the war itself lacks the impact and creativity that made Kingdom stand on its own as among the greats.

I do understand why Hara decided to have much more condensed writing for Hango and Han arcs, but that didn't require any compromises. I mean, the 2nd day of battle was reduced to a slideshow. The hype those two generals got rang competely hollow, especially when Tou never remotely used clever strategy once in this campaign.

6/10. This would've been among the best arcs if the war itself was as equally dramatic as the conflict that surrounded the people of Shintei.
