Great thread as usual, your reasoning of the importance of the moon and sun and how they relate to Luffy and Zoro is spot on. Just like how Beckman is said to be the moon to Shank's sun. I do however have an issue with having both Luffy and Zoro take down Kaido, not because it wouldn't make sense, the foreshadowing for it was there when both Luffy and Zoro went to the roof, the problem came when Zoro left.

In chapter 1035-1036, Zoro awakened as the King of Hell, and Oda capped the battle off by having him finish off King the same way Ryuma cut down the dragon. In that sense he accomplished what he set out to do when he left the rooftop, and also somewhat mastered Enma. The issue is that Luffy is only awakening as Joyboy now, and just like Zoro when he became the king of hell and Sanji when he came to terms with himself, Luffy will beat his assigned opponent, in his case Kaido.

Luffy and Zoro may both be at death's door, however, one is there after defeating his opponent, and one is there after failing to defeat his opponent. It makes sense that the one who will make a comeback is the one that still has regrets, i.e. Luffy.

If Oda wanted Luffy and Zoro to beat Kaido similar to Naruto and Sasuke against Kaguya/Madara, he wouldn't have let Zoro leave the rooftop. Luffy would have awakened as Joyboy and Zoro awakened as King of Hell against Kaido, which would have been much better honestly, but that isn't the case. Oda choose to have Luffy " Kick Kaido out of Wano"

The one curious thing about all this is that there’s all that stuff linking Zoro to Wano and the moon hovering along in the background and yet Oda keeps saying in SBS “I’m probably not going to do much with this.”

Which is not like him at all, he’s usually pretty forthcoming about what he’s going to build up as a plotpoint. Not just forthcoming, takes delight in building it up.

This question here really plumeted my expectations for Zoro for the rest of Wano.

Question : Lord Oda Eiichiro, I have read chapter 1024 and is deeply intrigued. Is the person who call himself "so and so" the father of Mr. Zoro?
Oda: I got a lot of questions about "so and so". It's kind of rude to reveal it since the person we're talking decide to hide it, but since a lot of you are asking I'll formally introduce them.

  • Daimyo of Ringo: Shimotsuki Ushimaru
  • Daimyo of Kibi: Fugetsu Omusibi (triangle head person)
  • Daimyo of Udon: Uzuki Tenpura
After the death of Oden, all of the regions rise up to take down Orochi, but they were defeated by the Beasts Pirates. Shimotsuki Ushimaru and Onimaru, the fox who stole shusui from Zoro, was a famous duo. There's was orginally going to be a scene when Onimaru is stealing Shusui, he is shocked by the appearance of Zoro, who looks identical to young Ushimaru; but that just makes things complicated so it got cut, besides it might not even be brought up in the manga.

Anyway I'll answer your question, Ushimaru is not Zoro's dad. These three characters' name won't be revealed in the manga, so I include them here. Regarding the lineage of Ushimaru, I'm not sure whether I'll draw more or hide it, so let's end the discussion here. They really do look alike huh?

And he’s done this in all the Zoro/Wano questions, just said “oh, I’m not sure if I’m going to show it, it might not be a big deal, I got rid of it because it was too complicated.”

Contrasted to stuff like his Jump Festa messages where he’s all about hyping big character storylines up and it’s not filling me with much confidence.
