Hey, maybe Barristan does beat Sandoq. Is Sandoq getting somewhat overrated? Maybe. But I don't think so.
Any of the three fighters he’s faced so far can beat him, imo. There skill level is all so high that they can potentially beat him 1v1,

But Sandoq just has that level of fuckery going on lmfao. Casually mowing down 12 guardsmen and a Kingsguard without taking a scratch is just insane.

"During the regency of Aegon III in 133 AC, Ser Willis Fell, the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, died of the Winter Fever alongside two of his sworn brothers of the Kingsguard. In their stead, King Aegon III Targaryen appointed Ser Robin Massey as Lord Commander and Ser Robert Darklyn to the white cloaks. With the support of Grand Maester Munkun, Lord Unwin Peake, the Hand of the King, dismissed all the appointments and arrangements of the twelve-year-old king, who had not consulted with his regents. His Kingsguard appointments were reversed, with Ser Marston Waters being elevated to Lord Commander while Lord Peake's bastard half-brother, Ser Mervyn Flowers, and nephew, Ser Amaury, were made knights of the Kingsguard.
In 135 AC Amaury and a dozen men-at-arms were ordered to seize Maegor's Holdfast by Ser Marston, the newly-named King's Hand, to arrest Lady Larra of Lys when the Rogare family were accused of plotting to overthrow Aegon. However, Larra's husband, Prince Viserys Targaryen, and the king refused to give her up. Viserys planted a battleaxe upon the drawbridge and warned Amaury and his men not to cross it, before retreating back into the castle. Amaury ordered his men to take the boys gently and to see no harm come to them. Larra's guard, a former pit fighter named Sandoq the Shadow, emerged to face Amaury and his men. As Sandoq dueled Amaury, he wounded the Kingsguard and then slew another guard. Amaury rushed Sandoq after the pit fighter was disarmed of his sword, but Sandoq used Viserys's battleaxe to split the knight's head and helm in half. Amaury's corpse toppled onto the spikes below the drawbridge of the keep."

This is the history of the wiki for the Kingsguard Sandoq beat

Amaury wasnt even chosen firstly by Aegon to be a kingsguard it was only because of the hand of the king that dissmissed all of Aegon III choices that Amaury (hand of the king nephew...) was choosen. So don't know how strong that lad was. Likley nothing huge lol.

And it was said that during the fight Sandoq at one point was disarmed. So not a walk in the park either for him.

Still a very good feat for Sandoq for beating 12 guys in a row

But beating Maelys the Mounstrous in a clean 1 vs 1 is a better feat

I agree with you but anybody who faces Sandoq is probably getting into the toughest match of his life. What would Jaime have thought of Sandoq? Lol.

At least Sandoq is in that high top tier range.

Just found out Daemon targaryen was knighted at the age of 16 like Jamie lannister as well lol.

Jaeharys himself knighted him and gave him the dark sister for his prowess.

Who says Maelys was a martial genius tho? He was called the monstrous in huge part because he had a second, smaller head protruding from his neck and not because he was the Vista of Westeros.
He had size going for him, but I don@t remember him being in the Mountain territory

He was freakishly strong, with stuff like killing a horse with a single punch, and tearing off his cousin’s head. Don’t remember much else.

The man killed a horse with only a single punch lmao

Was the leader during the nine penny war

Maelys killed the hand of the king of that time, a Baratheon

He also killed his cousin Darmon blackfyre (an other one) and with sheer strength remove his head from his shoulders

His arms and torso were said to be fucking huge but like huge huge

So yeah the man was a monster

First point is acrazy strength feat

Second point is irrelevant since any Blackfyre heir is the leader. In one of the Dunk and Egg novels the leader is an incompetent fool high on prophecies

Third point is also irrelevant since Hand of the King is not a martial position and doesn't reflect the strength of the Hand.

Fourth is again a crazy strength feat

Fifth too

All in all I stand corrected, he had strength for days. No martial talent to speka of tho, all those things he did to a) an animal, b) his cousin and thus his servant who wouldn't fight back anyway

Plate armor does wonders for blunting the blows of slicing weapons, such as swords/katanas more than it does for weapons that can pierce (arrows/spears).

Sandoq may end up in a tight spot when that sword from Selmy ends up in a forearm or even a leg as an attack blocked by an armor always provides its wearer with an extra opportunity to plan and enact his own counterattack.
