There is a misconception that observation Haki makes invisibility useless. But not true, I mean even if we assume that Zoro for example knows about the power, having to compensate for the ability not to see the opponent demands a high level of Haki used for a long period. You screw up with Shiryu and you're dead.
The fruit is awaken its allows you to make concept invisible. For example :
-The concept of time become invisible, which stop Shiliew’s opponents to be able to evaluate where Shiliew is precisely. He could be at 10 centimeters or 10 meters.

Invisibility was already not so much of a decisive factor in Absalom's favor back on Thriller Bark so there are little chances that, unless Shiryu turns an entire army or zone invisible without any physical contact, which would be an ass pull given how Absalom couldn't do it after years of experience with it; that I will be impressed by Shiryu's use of it especially if characters are nerfed or dumbed down to make it a real factor again.
There's no reason to believe that. Sanji basically edged out a Gifter in that fight, where regular Shiryu was already strong enough to tie Magellan. The guy who had Mr Darkness plus his top men all fucked.
Awakening stuff as an excuse goes with this thinking that somehow people are just on the level of Fujitora, an admiral who learned to fight blind out of necessity. Right now I doubt anyone below Rayleigh will even survive a guy that strong, forget about his distracting power.

I think invisibility will prove an additional factor to add unpredictability most likely but ultimately it was proven it is possible to spot it I guess. But the circumstances are still not very clear I guess. I think it was very foreseeable. I once made an argument on how it would of been too broken had it been impossible to counter with some mean. Imagine Shiryu cheap shotting Zoro the way he prefers and all the time.
Zoro's specialised in CoA and will probably masters his CoC during this arc so the only one left for Zoro to be able to beat Mihawk ( Who's definitely a master in all of his confirmed Hakis ) is to master his CoO and guess what ? Shiryu have the invisibility fruit and Zoro will have to use his CoO at his best to beat him ! Damn Oda you planned it well...
The Clear Clear fruit is not the same as Sanji's RS. Sanji said it's a visual. It helps you to blend in the environment whereas Clear Clear fruit has special property of turning yourself and whatever you touch invisible. If awakens, you are pretty much "nothing". You can hit other opponents but your opponents can't physically hits you if you have the fruit. If Zoro vs Shiryu happens, Zoro will definitely improve better CoO and unlock new technique to "hit" Shiryu physically.
