That's not true, the New World is supposed to be a highly dangerous place for its environment, it's why the World Government couldn't conquer it for 800 years. Roger finding the Lodestar Island was considered a big feat because for centuries nobody managed to navigate it that far

Oda just fucked up, plain and simple

It's not the environment at all... it's the fact that some strong guys could roll up at anytime and destroy a country which is unlikely for the other oceans. People like Randolph an Diesel who are so low of the totem pole of the Big Mom Pirates they're irrelevant are still able to cause massive damage to some islands. The average level Pirate Captain in the New World is probably weaker than the average Gifter so to them the New World is a nightmare where they could die at anytime. The Supernova are probably all in the top 100 in the whole world.
