The major power up of the wano kuni arc was the introduction of ryuo, allowing Luffy and Zoro to get ACoA and then ACoC. This allowed them to fight kaido and ultimately win their fights against Kaido and King respectively.
I believe we will see something similar yet again in the Elbaf arc, however this time the game changing power up will be Supreme Grade Swords.
This power is something deeply important to not only Zoro, but Luffy as well. When we saw the silhoutte of Nika in the Jinbe vs Who's Who fight, he was shown wielding a Spear and a blade. So chances are, Nika used a supreme grade weapon. And of course Zoro, who dreams of being the WSSM would be in need of such a weapon as well.
Furthermore, not only are these weapons important to Luffy and Zoro's character development as Nika and WSSM, they are important for their victory in their battles as well. How else is Zoro going to defeat Mihawk, if not with supreme grade swords of his own? Similarly, how shall Luffy defeat Teach, who has the ability to negate DFs, if he doesn't have some sort of power outside of his DF he can rely on?
As I've said in a previous thread, the only people who have supreme grade weapons are Roger tier pirates. The only confirmed users of these swords are Roger, WB, and Mihawk, with even a powerful swordsman like Oden not having a supreme grade sword. The same Oden who tanked a move that 1 shot a 3 billion berry pirate, that nearly killed Kaido, and who was ranked as one of the top 5 strongest pirates by Kaido. The fact Oden didn't have supreme grade swords proves that these weapons are beyond the scope of the average top tier and its only the greatest of the greatest: Shanks, Mihawk, Roger, WB, Xebec, that wield these blades.
In the battle for One Piece, Luffy and Zoro will have to become the greatest of the greatest, and hence, they will need supreme grade blades. Luffy will take up Nika's spear and dagger, allowing him to defeat Blackbeard who's yami yami no mi awakening will allow him to negate DFs without even making contact. Meanwhile Zoro will blacken his swords, turning enma and wado into supreme grade blades and the sandai kitetsu into a great grade. This will allow him to surpass Mihawk's yoru and become WSSM.
Overall, the process of taming supreme grade blades is likely to be incredibly difficult. No doubt, the spear and dagger of Nika will hold magical properties making them unusable by the average pirate since the days of Joyboy. And we already know how rare black blades are. But in mastering these weapons, Luffy and Zoro will surpass Teach and Mihawk, allowing them to reach the pinnacle of the Pirate world.
