It doesn't matter if zoro said to or luffy. Your argument was MC said it so it will happen and I just proved you that they did so with many characters.
Heck, most recent example is zoro not letting shs save vivi and one of his argument was Vivi is strong enough to handle it. And, we know she isn't lmao
Thing is don't build narrative around these MCs statements when the character lack feats and portrayal backing him up.
And, they calling someone strong doesn't mean that character would be strongest or will match them.
Garp at Enies said clearly that coby is no match for Luffy. And, the gap only widened since then because luffy is yonkou now.
