But it doesn't make much sense from the narrative standpoint. I mean we can say that they are no joke but tbh. Are they even on the Admiral level? You can't stop aging but that doesn't you will keep your Haki and etc. At least this is what I think.
I think Samurai Gorosei is the Admiral level at best and not the most prominent one.
Mihawk should be Zoro's final opponent in the series.

The fact that mostly the Yonkou fans are pushing for a fictional Sabo v Akainu fight when there was no build up to it whatsoever, just signals what their hidden agenda truly is.
The final war will happen after Luffy reached Roger/Primebeard level ( if not having surpassed it). That Luffy washes the current one that's going to put his hands on two Yonkou, so we can't allow Akainu v Luffy to happen otherwise Akainu will be able to compete with someone that just has defeated Prime Blackbeard who surpassed all Yonkou.
It's just their insecurities taking shape the closer we reach endgame. At some point, they'll come to terms with it.

And it is also very unlikely that Sakazuki will be stronger than the Prime BB. That will be pretty much equivalent to throwing all build ups for BB down the drain.

I think Luffy and Akainu will fight but then Sabo will take over for Luffy

I don't mind a future confrontation either, but people are lying to themselves real hard claiming that that fight comes even close in build up to what Luffy/Akainu have.
Luffy can't beat anybody, but Akainu and BB are those two characters that he has the most personal score to settle. There's literally nothing for Luffy to fight Imu since Dragon's life goal is it to end the tenryuubito and obviously the leader sitting on top.
I personally believe that Prime Blackbeard >~ Akainu, but it actually makes sense for Akainu to be on that level.
Blackbeard will surpass every pirate that stands in Luffy's way of becoming PK, not any Marine.
Luffy said that he must be superior to all Yonkou and Admirals to be truly regarded as the PK, and that what he's going to do.
But not by beating every single one of em in a 1v1, there's no need for that.
He'll beat the strongest Yonkou ( Prime Blackbeard) and the strongest Admiral (Akainu). This will confirm to us that Luffy has made it, finally.
Oda went as far as to give Akainu a win over another fellow Admiral to show us how he's the strongest of the bunch and coincidentally this Admiral has personal beef with Luffy, the protagonist.
Everything comes together imo.

If Imu is the all powerful God, then Dragon fighting him would be anti-climactic. But to be fair, within a 5 year limit, Oda can't really afford to give time to two super villains. So, I guess Luffy can take Blackbeard and Imu could be dealt in some other manner.

You don't need to beat admiral when you take down a Yonko 1 v 1 or in a war
Thankfully you believe EoS Teach >~ Akainu when in reality Akainu is below current Teach or roughly equal.
Once Kaido and BM falls, only EoS Teach is a threat. There's no point for Luffy fighting Akainu when we know he push Luffy to grow and get stronger. Just like after beating katakuri, only Yonko and admirals were a threat to Luffy, Luffy doesn't have time to battle a commander to showcase he surpassed them or is yet to surpass them.
Akainu won't be a threat to stop Luffy from being PK.
