This guy named a chapter "Luffy's dream" just to offscreen it

Imagine we're in endgame saga, the final saga after 1000+ chapters and 27 years yet Oda decided to not tell us this dream

Imagine not knowing what's the MC dream before his rise to Yonko Status,
This should have been before he became Yonko

Oh yeah he also didn't tell his so called "best friends" his real dream before TS while everyone did tell him their dreams

Everything about Luffy have been poorly written since TS

Oda has done lots of writing crimes.

It's not my style to cut Odour some slack, but garp continuously trained him in hope he becomes a marine and since he didn't like it, he chose to become a pirate in response. That's a possibility but the most likely answer is that he simply didn't want to prior to shanks arrival and got inspired by him (he did stay one year around Goa so that's quite a long time to let the whole thing marinate).

I think he just choose to become Pirate as way of Rebellion against Garp, who wanted to him to become Marine.

Then Shanks put up a performance to brainwash him and the rest is history
