From what I have observed, most people seemed to be taking for granted that the flames are orange..
Clearly because Nika is supposed to be the "god" of the sun (太陽の神), and the sun looks orange, and is related to heat/fire. And people began to colour Luffy's gear 5 after the previous chapter, when it hadn't been confirmed to be white yet.
But now that Yamato confirmed that both his hair and clothing become white with the transformation, everyone probably already knows it's actually white:
There are already too many fire users in the series with orange or yellow flames, so I find it cool that Oda decided to make it white.
I don't think the flames are related to physical heat though, since they look more mystical, so as to speak, just like Momo's, which also have those spirals in the flames, and even their eyebrows look similar, being curled against each other.
The fact that Luffy has not been using moves related to heat, but still just somehow related to rubber, seems to confirm that the flames are there just for the looks.
And they kind of look more like they are actually clouds (like the Flying Nimbus from Dragon Ball) rather than flames. And in such case the same can be said about that thing around Momo's dragon body; Those are yellow clouds, and not flames, though to be more precise I think in both cases it looks more like a mixture of flames with cloud.
