We need to clarify something it’s not just “Viz” but the translator of Viz.

Stephen Paul.

Why ? If people haven’t been around One piece for a long time and just hopped in recently you wouldn’t know the history.

Way back when people would get the Japanese scans and read along with Stephen’s translations - Stephen even gets raved by the Japanese audience, to me and anyone who doesn’t 100% understand Japanese, Stephen’s translations have been the closest to what Oda is trying to rely.

VIZ is very conservative with translations that would otherwise give a clear powerscaling or even hints at it.

citing one source as the ultimate translation is an appeal to authority.
