One of Oda's biggest mistakes was to focus so fucking much on lame comedy relief characters like Queen as well as people like cringe Ulti or the Scabbards.
He could've saved a lot of that panel time to develop actually meaningful plot points in the arc but hey this manga is supposed to target an audience of 16 year olds like the walking clowns from Reddit so it's understandable.
There are many reasons from what I've seen. Conversely, even those who claim it is the best thing ever give fairly consistent reasons as well. Starting with the hate though:
- Arc is too long and dragged out
- Lack of tension
- Too many tedious plotlines
- Lack of focus on Strawhats
- Powerlevels
- Unmet expectations
Some I'd say are reasonable. Some others, not so much. Some of them won't be fixed by re-reading either. Reading week to week doesn't explain all the issues people have with Wano.
As for those who love it:
- Hype
- Character they love is prominent
- Japanese style setting/atmosphere
- Love Oden and everything centered around that
Things that i always complain about Wano :
1. Motherly mode
2. Ancient Zoan durability doesn't meet the hype. In fact their durability is worse than the scabbards.
3. Fake death
4. The dragging is just too obvious to ignore.
Im okay with everything else since i dont expect too much from the first place.
Everyone have their own taste im sure. But for me personally Wano is not the best arc. And after rereading, i conclude that Marineford is actually even worse.
I dont know if this is just me but personally i love rereading w7/ennies lobby, Skypiea, and Alabasta for over and over again. But not so with Dresrossa, WCI, and Wano.
I see more and more people saying that the Wano arc is boring, that Oda is a terrible writer and even that One Piece is now Fairy Tail level. Well, the Wano arc is the first arc I follow weekly, so I don't know what the discussions were like at the time of WCI and Dressrosa, but I have an opinion as to why the Wano arc is being so hated.
The reason the Wano arc is hated is because it's the boldest arc in One Piece. But why the boldest? Because it is the arc that Oda had the most to develop the power level of several characters, the arc that has the most characters to be developed, and above all it is the arc that has the most responsibility to dictate the direction of future events and establish the fate of characters in the series.
Just imagine creating an arc where:
- need to develop the main character of the arc (Zoro)
- needs to develop Wano's country and arc characters
- need to develop the antagonist and his motivations
- need to develop the Beast Pirates, and their power level (especially King and Queen)
- needs to introduce and develop a new and potentially future character straw hat member(Yamato)
- need to develop the scabbards plot
- need to develop Supernovas
- need to develop the role of CP0 and WG in the arc
- need to develop a power up from Luffy to beat Kaido
- need to develop a power up for Kid and Law to beat Big Mom
- need to develop the power ups of the Straw Hats
- need to develop the Straw Hats fights
- need to develop the Supernovas fights
- need to develop Zoro and Sanji's fights (which are the main ones after Luffy)
- need to continue Sanji's storyline with Germa 66
- need to develop Kaido and Big Mom's power level
- need to decide the fate of the two Yonkous in the series
- need to balance the power level of the characters in the arc
Has so many Fucking things. So it's kind of to be expected that an arc, where Oda needs to develop so many plots and sub plots, juggling to work the power level of so many characters is hated, often leaving characters like Usopp and Brook aside, leaving doubts about about the strength of characters like: Why Big Mom doesn't use ACoC against Law and Kid, or if drunk Kaido is a character nerf. Maybe because Wano's arc is so full of stuff, it makes people think that Wano's arc is a disasterclass.
This is my thought , Now for you, what is the reason that Wano is so hated?
and he failed or did very bad job in every single of them
i became a weekly reader in PH i basically experienced every post ts ark expect FMI there are always a lot of hate in end of ark but personally i never was so negative about an ark i enjoyed previous arks for most part there was down moments but overall for me it wasn't this bad
honestly for most part i didn't liked wano ark in onigashima i didn't had that much problem with wano before onigashima but in onigashima it become much worse and it's not because of length of ark if it can make ark better for me i don't have problem if it will take another 50 chapter
Wano is disasterclass
Wano is a disasterpiece
Wano is Woe Tale
I feel sorry for you. You think oda cares about one piece. The only thing oda cares is making profit for shounen jump and himself because he can not do anything else outside of drawing.

Positives about wano come in forms of portrayal. So technically luffy beating a yonko and progressing closer to the one piece is the only good that comes from wano.
Why does Oda need to create so many characters? It actually ruins the story. Wano would be perfect if it just focused on Luffy, Zoro, Kid, Law, Kaido, and Big Mom.
Instead you throw in all these characters who on paper shouldn't be very important, but are essentially the main characters of their own arcs. Like Rebecca or the scabbards.
And I mean I like the scabbards don't get me wrong. But I find it a bit shitty when characters with over a decade of build up, like Big Mom or Kid, get sidelined to make room for new characters like Yamato or O-Tama.

Oda also destroyed any tension this arc had when he had Luffy jump like 5 powerlevels in the span of 3 chapters

This is my thought , Now for you, what is the reason that Wano is so hated?
W7 was memorized because of Cp9 reveal and Luffy vs Usopp which was a well choreographed fight that increased stakes
Marine Ford was memorized because of WB's death, his fight with Akainu, and Ace's death, along with Luffy hype moments
So far in Wano, there is no shocking reveal, there are well choreographed fights (4), all tension gets resolved immediately unlike Merry's death and WB and Ace being killed, and there are no relevant deaths so far.
i also curious about positive thing in wano, we already see lot of SOLID Reason about why wano is bad so it,s time to see some positive argument ?
only can think 2 things
roger,WB and oden backstory
polyneghyph history and sea stone weapon factory
also wonder why sea stone weapon not used in raid? why beast pirates not try to fight luffy, kidd n law with seastone weapon? it will be effective right?
so far this arc kinda dragged a lot with too many plot points n too many characters but also feel rushed because of offscreen fight ...

01. Weekly Read
02. Longest Arc (By far)
03. Too much Expectations (Because they thought it's Final War when it's not)
04. Forum Debates that lead to False Expectations & Impatience
05. Readers neglecting Lore & caring only about Fights (Something that Oda said he doesn't care about much)
06. Zoro Focus annoys his Haters too much
07. Number of Characters who need to be Developed
08. Increased Breaks
09. Reading Spoilers
... etc
It's basically the Fandom itself that turned Wano into such a Hated Arc
If a Reader have no False Expectations, read the Arc either from Start to Finish or by Volumes instead of weekly, not participate in Forum Debates or reading other's Opinions too much, caring about Lore & not much about Fights, not disliking Characters & enjoying all of them, and also avoiding Spoilers then they would enjoy the Arc much much better
I believe this is how a Manga is supposed to be read & enjoyed, but unfortunately the Fandom is doing the opposite completely & that's why they can't stop complaining, as if One Piece is a Live Service Video Game where they want the Content to be the way they desire.
