Current Events The Real Reason WHY Wano´s arc is so hated

#41
As a long time week to week reader, it's the same song and dance every arc.

*Arc starts*

Fandom: Man this so so cool, this is going to be the best arc.

*Halfway through the arc*

Fandom: Man when are we going to get to the end of the arc already.

*Towards the end of the arc*

Fandom: God this arc is terrible. *Proceeds to rattle off x,y and z reasons*

*Arc concludes and next arc is well under way*

Fandom: "You know, I actually went back and read *previous arc* in one go, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

Rinse and repeat.
I sometimes wonder if most people here are teens because they don't remember how this cycle has been ongoing for longer than a decade now

YouTubers pretending that Dressrossa didn't generate far more hate than Wano ever did

I just dont understand why take sooo long to show irrelevant shit. The scabards were way too weak and lame to receive so much time screen. O toko, yasue, ODEN my godness... at the end of the day, does it matter? I look back and what I see is an agony week per week enduring certain characters. Just so at the end not fucking deliver with the fights because none of them had a nice clímax. NONE, being Big Mom's the most underwhelming one because shes a freaking Yonkou...

Plenty of people hate this arc because they dislike Yamato so intensely, as if she was impersonating THEIR dead fathers instead of cosplaying as a fellow fictional character…truly hope nothing serious ever happens offline to these folks, they clearly have no capacity to handle any emotional strife, real or (definitely in this case) imagined :seriously:

Reason is OP is a Manga, it should be experienced in a Volume instead of week to week reading.

Some of the fandom will never realise it.

It's a manga ment to read as a whole Volume.

the thing is that the story is happening inspite of the strawhats. The strawhats have dreams where they have done nothing notable to achieve them except luffy and robin but even then there are issues.

The highlighting of other characters like yamato tama oden etc in the hand have 0 impact on the storys essence. it would not really matter if we get to see Roger v Whitebeard.

I wonder what would have happened thoigh if someone with a male body tried to be a female figure and call tama her daughter.

That’s what Oda’s trying to do, though, is give Yamato/Tama/Oden-Momo meaning since at least one of them will be a major character for the rest of the series. I’ve long railed against the author’s tendency to introduce an unreasonable amount of supporting characters and give them hardly anything to do, but it’s only gotten ten times worse in this arc outside of the aforementioned ones :specialmeh:

But it is not working and it has been crippling the storys essence and you admit that. So now we can both agree that yamato is a redundant character whose sole purpose is to sell merchandize.

As a long time week to week reader too, I can tell you that: Wano fucking sucks.

Most of the characters introduced this arc kinda make sense from a Worldbuilding point of view.

We definitely don’t agree with that, the fact that it’s not working (for the vocal minority) is the author’s fault more than the fictional character he’s creating. I’m not gonna deduct points from Yamato because she wasn’t created in Skypiea or Water 7 when Oda still really cared about telling a sensible story, she and several other bungled characters are victims of circumstance. I was simply pointing out that she’s the recipient of a lot of undue criticism, but at worst, she’s a microcosm of a problem that has plagued this series since the Straw Hats entered the Grand Line.

They do, but if they aren’t going to be fleshed out in this arc (or any other), what’s the point? Setting up future cover stories at the expense of the actual canon?

Dude Yamato was the reason i had my breaking point this arc. Yamato could not break off the shackles but had adv coc? Wtf?! Yamato killed any tension that was not there for me in luffy v Kaido.

You keep contradicting yourself to argue with me because you are in denial. This is redundant at this point.

Yeah, you’re not the only baby who lost their mind over, again, a cartoon character who isn’t real and hasn’t done anything to you personally. Like I said before, if this is how you react to a comic book, I hope they never get your order wrong at Starbucks or something, you might collapse into a puddle of your own tears.

While I agree

The suggestions a lot of people make in the fandom. Where only "important" Characters aka "Badass Normal looking strong guys" are allowed would just Turn One Piece into a Soulless Battle Shounen.

For example people called the giant babies from PH "unimportant" then later we found out they were a part of a deal between Joker and Big Mom.

The solution so many people here bring up would just kill the Spirit of One Piece IMO

I agree with all that, but it’s useless to introduce these seemingly ancillary characters if they just…stay that way instead of receiving the development they need. Oda could pull back about 50 percent and still have enough warm ink to put someone wherever (or make them whatever) they need to be, and it’s one thing he has never done well, especially now.
