This makes sense, since Blackbeard was teased from the start of the series as Luffy's foil.

Despite the fact that he barely got any screen time. He will be play a huge role in the end.

It doesn't make sense for this much buildup just for imu (a character introduced much later and not much development) to be final villain.

And this painting sort of confirms, imu was the central figure in the 2nd world.

I don't think so, BB can acquire two ancient weapons. There is also a lot of build up to his character. He knows a lot about Xebec and taboo topics. He is scheming to become King. One of his henchmen can cosplay as Saturn. BB is probably planning to steal Imu's spot.

There would be no point to BB if he wasnt the final villain. Imu already has been a villain in the 2nd World and he was most likely not the villain in the 1st World. The 3rd World will have its own villain.
