I don’t think any SN was stronger than Luffy Pre-Ts. Kid was probably slightly below. The SHs didn’t need a TS because they were behind everyone else, they needed it because they were crazier. Other SN: Bege, Hawkins, Apoo, and Drake bent the knee to Yonko and Law became a Warlord for WG protection. None of the other SN are as reckless as the SHs. No other crew was insane enough to assault Celestial Dragons, not even Kid. The SHs have no self preservation instinct so they would immediately have challenged the first Yonko or Doffy they ran into when any crew with a brain would keep their heads down for awhile. Other crews were smart enough to either ally with a Yonko, or WG, or lay low. Kid was the most reckless and it has cost him dearly, and he’s nowhere near as reckless as the SHs.
To be fair, it was only 2 years.
Goku timeskipped to adulthood and could barely handle Piccolo.

Re read my post. I personally think the TS would've played out better had the SN had been established as a lot stronger with higher bounties. The summit war arc was all about teaching Luffy that he is not ready, him being weaker than everybody else on the island would fit that and would be a lot more satisfying seeing him surpass the rest right in front of our eyes
Hancock one shotting multiple Pacifista left and right while Luffy needed G2 named attack + Haki to put one down. Zoro and Sanji using three swords style and DJ to take one down also. Timeskip was needed because the whole Strawhat crew wasted 95% of their strength just to take one Pacifista down pre-timeskip.

I don’t think we needed it. Seeing Kizaru, Magellan, all of Marineford, and especially a single Pacifista dunk on Luffy was enough for me to see he needed to improve. It would make the other SN feel even more disappointing to most people I’d think if they were that crazy hyped. But that’s your personal preference so I can’t argue with how you feel.
As far as people who say the power jump was disappointing, the monster trio went from having to go all out to 3v1 a Pacifista to all 3 being able to 1 shot. If that’s not an insane jump idk what is. And it isn’t like we didn’t see big dogs fodderizing Pacifista at Marineford so we knew how far ahead Boa and people like her were before the TS.

I would say the main thing is.... even after the time skip we are getting all the BS oda can add.

After DBZ ended with Kid Buu and the Uub tournament, Jump needed 3 stories with mass advertisement all over the world to not lose popularity: Naruto, Bleach and One Piece
One Piece is at least as big in Japan as DBZ was and worldwide views are also great (DBZ is Brazil is way way way bigger still though)

Maybe, but personally if let's say Kid had a crazy bounty of 500,000 at Saobody and then we see him all scarred up and missing an arm I think it would have sent a stronger message that the New World was dangerous. Also I think Dressrosa would've played out better if the reader was lead to believe that Luffy was trying to catch up to Law only to be a lot stronger in that arc
Personally I’d have preferred nearly the opposite. I liked Law and Kid being set up as Luffy’s equals and I myself would have liked for them to be closer to Luffy currently. Not only as individuals but especially as crews. I wish they had more impressive subordinates but I accept the story as it is. But everyone finds different ideas more or less compelling.

I hate how much people use the Cracker fight to downplay Luffy.

G4 Luffy pretty much one-shotted Cracker, the issue was getting to Cracker in the first place. That's what happens when you fight someone who himself proclaimed had poor durability and instead had to rely on stalling with endless biscuits.
Like seriously, imagine if people tried to downplay Zoro because he "needed help" to fly to where Pica was in Dressrosa.

Thats exactly the problem. Oda let him beat guys like Crocodile, Enel, Lucci, Moria, but then get trashed by some robot. Then remember how he one shotted a giant at Marineford? There was no consistency in his power level back then, Oda realized hes climbing up too fast so he pushed him back significantly.

They were the strongest Supernova Crew (Luffy was the highest bounty of supernova pre time skip 400mi but not because of that he was the strongest) and the only ones who needed this bullshit timeskip. All the others succeeded/survived pretty well New World. Is not like post timeskip Luffy would survive against BB, Shanks(if not friends), Kaido(I even have to say?) etc...
