Huh, maybe Oda is witholding Sunbell for some reason but vol 96 SBS named him already. I always thought that maybe Jinbe has some unexplained history with Sunbell and is the reason for his scarring, one of the few things Oda refuses to answer

That's true, tho Sengoku did say that Members of the rock pirates never talk about their time on the crew, and the Oden flash back kinda just skimmed over the moriah and kaido rivalry never went into detail of how it started or why Kaido wiped out Moriah's old crew

No I mean it literally just isn't, him being the mastermind is likely just saying he's the one that caused all that ruckus in the first place but it's not really a power level thing
Blackbeard was also technically the mastermind behind Marineford and he didn't even participate in it until the very end lol

Maybe oda was just naming the officers of the crew. Which is why Sunbell, Shanks, Buggy, Oden, and a few others weren’t mentioned. We know that Roger had a pretty sizable crew after all.
