Personal commentary: I always wanted to learn an instrument, so I decided to learn piano as an adult. I am not the greatest but I enjoy it. My grandmother plays piano and growing up we didn't have the best relationship.
My grandmother is a fine woman but she doesn't have a lot of maternal skills. With that being said, growing up I didn't have much of a relationship with her. When I talked to her recently, she was so happy to hear that I was learning piano and we played some songs together. She even gave me some music to learn, one song was Johnny Mercer's "Moon River."
I am glad piano brought us closer together. It's been great getting to know my grandmother as her own person and not just my dad's mother.
