What if Celestial Dragons weren't the ones who exterminated the Lunarians?
What if the Ancient Kingdom is not who we think they are?
What if Zoro isn't Zoro?
What if Kuma asked Vegapunk to erase his memory intentionally?

Welcome back folks, to another theory thread and today we will see what all those questions have in common!

Ever since Wano ended, I have been wondering how is it possible that such an ending makes sense...
Why would Oda create so many plotlines and do nothing with them? Could it all have been intentional?
By no means, I don't want to give credit to the guy whose writing is spiraling downwards but this is my take on it.

According to Whitebeard, a long time ago, long before the Celestial Dragons made Red Line their base, an ancient kingdom of Gods was there.
Since 800 years ago, on the same spot Mariejois is located, the headquarters of the World Government that we all know.
Most of us probably assumed that it was the World Government who annihilated the Lunarians but what if it isn't so?
What if the first couple of generations of descendants of 20 founding kings picked that spot to pay tribute to the Lunarian kingdom?
What if some other powerful kingdom was behind the annihilation of the Lunarian race?
Which kingdom would be threatened by the power of Lunarians?

The answer to those questions is none other than the Ancient Kingdom that was defeated and erased from history during the Void Century!
As Vegapunk himself said - Void Century is a history of war, however, we have never been told why it came to such a war.
The reason why it came to the war 900 years ago could be the inferiority complex of a powerful race.
Ancient Kingdom may have been a powerful race that couldn't make peace with being inferior to the godly powers of Lunarians!
Because of that, they turned to science and achieved incredible things that we learned about on Egghead, unparalleled technology.
Even the ancient giant robot that we found on Egghead is programmed to climb the Red Line and attack that specific location.
And it did that alone 200 years ago, with nobody around to command him to do so. What triggered him to activate then is unclear.
What if the giant robot wasnt after the World Government? Considering that it was built 900 years ago, before WG was established!
What if the robot was targetting Lunarians and 200 years ago it couldnt detect any in Mariejois and thus no damage was done?

All of this could be inspired by real-life events of Nazi Germany during World War 2 which was technologically more advanced than others.
The ideology of the Aryan race could be the same thing that the 20 founding kings of WG banded together to stop and erase from history.
As I said, what if the Ancient Kingdom werent the good guys that were destroyed by bad guys called World Government?
What if it's the complete opposite? What if Ancient Kingdom were the bad guys that were taken down by 20 good guys banding together?
What if the ideals of the Ancient Kingdom were so evil that WG decided to forever erase them from history and forbids learning about them?

The Poneglyphs that are left by the Ancient Kingdom often speak of Ancient Weapons, weapons of mass destruction.
At this point, it is clear that Ancient Weapons were a technological achievement of the Ancient Kingdom that was used against others.
Ancient Weapons could have been the very thing that annihilated the ancient kingdom of the Lunarian race.

What if those evil ideals were somehow inherited by Rocks D. Xebec who sought the same - ruling the world?
That could have been the reason why both Roger and Garp banded together to protect the Celestial Dragons 38 years ago, the lesser evil.

While the 20 kings, who defeated the Ancient Kingdom, were noble and just, their inbred descendants became the same as Ancient Kingdom.
Spoiled by the privileges they inherited from their ancestors, Celestial Dragons slowly adopted the very ideology their ancestors banded together to exterminate. They started to act like gods, like everyone else is beneath them, not worthy of breathing the same air. The message here is that absolute power absolutely corrupts.

The thing we should consider from now on is that the Ancient Kingdom wasn't noble and was after absolute tyranny over the world.
"Today we annihilate Lunarians, tomorrow we take the world!"

We finally get to the point about Zoro...
What if Zoro isnt Ushimaru's descendant? What if it's not a coincidence that he is a spitting image of Ryuma?
What if he isnt Ryuma's descendant? What if Zoro IS Ryuma?
You are probably reacting like this:

Let me walk you through it slowly. Slowly but surely, we have seen that Vegapunk is recreating the technology of the Ancient Kingdom.
Even devil fruits could have been a result of their technology considering that Vegapunk is now recreating devil fruits as well.
He is just using the blueprints that were left behind by the Ancient Kingdom thanks to the scholars of Ohara.

Until 23 years ago, Ryuma's corpse was preserved in the icy cold region of Ringo, the place known for its eternal graves.
22 years ago is a date known for the annihilation of Ohara by Buster Call. During the same year, Vegapunk reads books about AK technology.
21 years ago is the date when Roronoa Zoro is born. Or was he?
Oda himself said that Zoro's parents are an insignificant detail and that he probably won't address it in the manga.

We have seen that Vegapunk almost perfectly recreated Kaido's Devil Fruit, the only flaw was its color.
During the Onigashima raid, some characters wondered who is the pink Kaido...
When we left Wano, after Zoro was against going to Mariejois in search for Vivi, the crew members are venting by calling him names.
A throwback to pre-TS scene when he told them to kidnap Vivi if they miss her so much.
The interesting part of that scene is that one of the crew members calls Zoro a green Kaido. Parallel to pink Kaido being Momonosuke.

If Momo's DF ended up a perfect clone of Kaido's DF aside from the color then Zoro is a perfect clone of Ryuma aside from the hair color.
Yes, Zoro could have been cloned 21 years ago, from Ryuma's remains, instead of being born. Unlikely?
Well, lots of things in One Piece are being cloned. Judge is cloning his obedient soldiers. Vegapunk is cloning lots of stuff.
From the Kuma clones, Warlord clones, Lunarian ability cloning, recreating Vega Force 01, Kizaru's laser beam cloning to cloning Kaido's DF.
Cloning Ryuma could be just another thing among his various clonings...

It is obvious that he seeks power, recreating powerful things and individuals and the ones that stand out are imperfect clones due to color.
Vegapunk cloned the two things that were powerful enough to keep the World Government out of Wano with their monstrous strength.
Just like he abandoned Kaido's DF for considering it a failure, he probably abandoned Ryuma's clone considering it a failure for same reason.

The timeline of Vegapunk reading about the Ancient Kingdom's cloning technology to Zoro being born/cloned a year later fits perfectly.
How and when he got his hands on a sample of Ryuma is unclear but it is doable, whether he went to Wano or got it from Hogback...
While the clone has no memories of the original, the desire for being the strongest and affinity towards swords has been inherited.
Even the getting lost gag could have been another reason why Vegapunk deemed Ryuma's clone a failure.

It is certainly interesting that he keeps quiet about it considering that he warned Lilith about the swordsman.
It seems like not all knowledge is synced among the Vegapunk bodies otherwise Lilith should know about it too unless not even Shaka Vegapunk has recognized it yet.
The real body that hangs away from Zoro's party could be the only one that can recognize him perhaps.
As wild as it all sounds, there is nothing that can debunk this for now.

Ultimately, we reach the final part about Kuma.
We know that Big Mom's kingdom is missing 3 races and that Giants is one of those missing 3.
We also figured out that Lunarians are another missing race from Totland.
The last race that Big Mom couldnt obtain is Kuma's special race.

We dont know what is so special about his race yet but it has been hinted at by Jinbe - muscles and unknown latent ability.
Vegapunk was enumerated by those traits and struck a deal with Kuma when the latter was sentenced to imprisonment.
Vegapunk started his body modifications and cloning him while Kuma became a Warlord in exchange.

While his daughter Bonney claims that her father is not a bad guy, according to Jinbe, Kuma being a tyrant is a real deal.
Kuma is indeed not a bad guy, at least towards his own people and his own daughter.
However, when speaking about others he is as tyrannical as it gets. He was so bad that people of Sorbet overthrew and forced him away.

There was one character in Wano who had absolutely no purpose in the story and everything could have happened without her - Toki.
The character that is born during Void Century with the ability to send people through time.
Very interesting considering that Kuma is a guy with an ability to send people through space.

My guess is that Kuma is the last survivor of the Ancient Kingdom that Toki sent into the future when WG was hunting them down.
It would explain why Kuma is good to Bonney while tyrannical towards others - the Aryan ideology of the Ancient Kingdom lives!
It would explain why he behaved so destructively during Thriller Bark using abilities that are devastating for everyone on the island, not sparing anyone present. It would explain why he let Zoro take the pain bubble while knowing he is near death already and that he would die.

There is no explanation for why he joined Dragon and formed a Revolutionary Army but he could have been using Dragon to eliminate the descendants of the people that annihilated his home 900-800 tears ago.
What ultimately changes his mind is a mystery but I guess it could be the realization that his fellow "Aryans" are no longer around and all he has left is his daughter Bonney so for her sake, he asked Vegapunk to wipe his mind clear, to erase the evil ideology that he inherited from the evil Ancient Kingdom.
Protecting the Sunny could have been a request for one good deed before he goes blank.

All of these may seem unlikely things that are too much to expect from Oda considering that theorists write a better story than him.
However, if any of these end up true, the history of One Piece may not be as black and white as initially thought. Lots of gray areas.
If you read through it all, lemme know what you think.
Yours truly, supreme Zori wanker.

If we don't meet Zoro's parents you might be correct tbh.

Oda fucking loves tying everything into the past because he can't write a compelling story and give his characters original stories.

I was also curious about Toki. She was jumping forward in time, there is a chance she met Ryuma. Although I don't want to get into any Ryuma = Zoro's father shit cause that will give us another character with strong papi.

It's not even my thing. The Zoro part is a theory on reddit. I only expanded on it.
And it has nothing to do with power levels so you shouldnt mind it anyway. :kriwhat:

Considering that Vegapunk is cloning every possible thing, I wouldnt be surprised.
The weird part is that there is nothing in the story to disprove the theory.

Zori is Zori
He's not a science product
I would prefer it that way as well. :goyea:

Also, the fact that Vegapunk learned it from the books that cover the knowledge from hundreds of years ago.

So basically Ancient Kingdom people could clone people too:goatasure:

@nik87 my favorite part of your theory is that the Ancient Kingdom was too advanced and thus became too dangerous. The WG formed with good intentions but the issue is that their descendants soon became corrupt with power. Is Joy Boy part of the Ancient Kingdom? Since Luffy wants absolute freedom, is that also Joy Boy’s dream? Could there be dire consequences to absolute freedom that the WG is trying to stop at all costs?

I also got a good chuckle out of Zoro being a clone of Ryuma albeit the wrong color. We know that Oda loves his gags and he seems to be fixated on Vegapunk viewing his perfect experiments as failures due to their coloring. However, I like that Zoro got to where he is through hard work and determination. I think Zoro being scientific experiment would ruin all of his efforts. Like you and so many others, I hope Zoro’s not a clone.

I couldnt tell this while thinking about it during the making of the thread.
WG is trying to stop the knowledge of history during the Void Century.
I dont know if there are any serious consequences to finding it all out.

#29
Is there a TL;DR somewhere?? The OP is very long

How can Zoro be Ryuma when we literally saw Ryuma’s zombified body fight him?

Not possible. Oda wouldn’t write a character with such an unnecessary plot twist like this, not to mention it would ruin the marketing value if you consider that. It wouldn’t work. Zoro deserves to be him and only him.

This is post time skip One Piece! There are no consequences and zero tension!

Due to the sheer resemblance, I actually think Zoro being his clone could make sense, but I would actually like it more if he was just his twin brother, as strange as that might sound. With the time fruit's ability to send other people into the future whoever had the fruit prior to Toki might have taken one of the Shimotuski brothers and as a possible future hope send them into the distant future.

The hair color could just be regular hair color difference could honestly just be a weird Oda thing where he revealed after the fact Ryxuma DID have green hair but due to some fight with a magic Octopus, his hair was forever ink-stained black or some shit like that. Would be far from the strangest shit he ever pulled.

Overall nice theory.

I liked that theory too during Wano but none of it was addressed...
And it could have been Toki who send Ryuma's brother(Zoro) into the future.
Because she was jumping since Void century and Ryuma's era could have been one of the jumps.
In the last 800 years, she was the only user of time fruit until 20+ years ago when she died.

There are more parallels between Zoro and Kaidou than there are stars in the sky. LOL

Toki's power must have been used in another way, there's no way a stolen power could have been used in an "idiotic" way with Toki using it to run away from dangers and just sending the retainers into the future.

Zoro could be Ryuma's own son sent to the future. LOL

I won’t pretend I read the whole thing but Zoro himself being a clone is far fetched in a shonen like this.
What I think might have some inheritable element is Asura, especially since this they are involved with reincarnation.
Asura in itself is more wacky than Nika awakening, at least we know Nika has a source which is the devil fruit. Zoro on the other hand gains an asura like physical body, I’d be disappointed if Oda doesn’t explain that one, but it’s likely something inherited from Ryuma

Actually, Asura could be the proof that Zoro isnt a clone of Ryuma because it is 9-sword style and a being with 6 arms.
Totally unfitting to Ryuma's Ittoryu. Zoro could instead be a reincarnation of something else but the identical look to Ryuma is confusing.

Zoro is obviously a Shimotsuki with that birthday and similar looks not only to Ryuma, but the dude who fed Yamato in the flashback. We also have Shisui yielding itself to him.

Ryuma not necessarily had an Asura form, but he himself was reincarnated as an Asura, or maybe some other form of wacky shit concerning the inherited will of samurai, something passed down into the Shimotsuki family genes until the rightful heir can claim this power
