I might be naive, but I think that if everyone had their basic needs (shelter, food, hygiene) covered at a guarantee, we'd still have a functioning society, because there are people that actually find work fulfilling and interesting. My mom studied physics in-depth in school and at the uni. Her first bf ended up being a physics researcher, something he always loved from his childhood, but he had to move to the US to be able to do so and keep earning a decent wage. Their class was about 30 people who loved physics. Only one made it as a legit scientist.
