I did kickboxing for a couple of years
Watched a kid join after me and become a national champion while i still hadn't won a local competition
At 24 years old and needing to work a couple of jobs it doesn't sound like the best investment of energy
I will probably compete at some point again but being good enough to make money off this is out of question.

What he's describing is like an engineer or worker in a mine, government construction project, oil field workers etc..
Long work hours but good pay, benefits and regular breaks. 15 days on and 3-7 days off.
