It's been 4 and a half years since Jinbe officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates .
With all this time, I feel it's fair to evaluate him.

Unlike other Straw Hats, Jinbe often feels like a formal outsider, He feels awkward and out of place , and his interactions lack the unique spark we see between other crew members.

One of my favorite things about the Straw Hats is how we’ve watched them grow , from the bottom to where they are now. That journey of both power and character is a part of their appeal. But Jinbe didn’t start from the bottom with them. When he joined, he was already at his peak in terms of character and power, (I don’t see much room for him to grow further since we are nearing the end.)

And Since joining, he hasn’t had any particularly notable moments either.

Even Vivi, who wasn’t an official member, feels more like a Straw Hat than him.

What do you think? Do you like Jinbe as a Straw Hat ?

Oda has no clue what to do with him and it’s very obvious Oda has no big plans with him. In egghead he was a moving company, a taxi, and a coward who freaked out the second he saw a gorosei.
There really isn't anything he can do with him tbh

Not getting much stronger
His dream of uniting Fishman and humans is pretty much already true most humans and Fishman are tolerant of each other

He really added nothing to the crews dynamic but he promised Ace to look after him and they bonded during marineford/impel down

That bond and promise is why he's part of the crew

For a strawhat he hasn't got any focus at all. I mean just think:
-Only Strawhat without a flashback centered around him (and the flashback he was in he wasn't even the best character in it)
-Only Strawhat without an arc focused on him
-Longest time to officially join the SH's (7 arcs!)
-1 actual fight with SH's
-Had little to no celebration when he joined officially

I do like his personality, and some of his character but Oda definitely needs to do more with him for me to like him more.

He’s too serious for a SH, just doesn’t feel like he fits in the dynamic. He was also introduced and consistently portrayed as such a big deal in the world being an ex-warlord so that is still off putting. In fact, he feels more like a mentor figure or a powerful ally. How is someone like him under Luffy? It just doesn’t feel right.

Yamato fits the mold of being a SH better based on her personality and she has more room for character growth unlike Jinbei. Plus, the crew genuinely helped her situation. Whereas it feels more like Jinbei was the one saving Luffy and the SH’s ass throughout the series, again it’s because he started out as a way higher figure than all of them.

Does the stuff with ace and Fisher Tiger count as Flashback

Agree 10/10.
