He was one of the strongest conquerors in OP, so surely he had to have kingly ambitions. But what were they?

Roger was pirate king, Oden was daimyo of Udon, and Shanks became a yonko.

But what did Rayleigh do? Surely he had to have done something to be known as the dark king.

My theory is that prime Rayleigh was king of the underworld/black market. Kinda like what Doffy was, except Ray was an actual top tier. Hence, being the king of the underworld, he gained the epithet “dark king”.

Roger had Wealth, Fame, and Power. Perhaps Rayleigh’s underworld dealings brought him immense wealth. Wealth he ultimately left on Laugh Tale, adding to the treasure Joyboy left.

Every King title we know of was granted due to Strength.
Alber became King because he was too strong for a regular name, even at age of 16, in eyes of WSC.
Ryuma became King because he was strongest in the world.
Zoro became King when he took his haki a step above the handful of very strongest.
Rayleigh became King most likely due to his strength, he was possibly stronger than Roger.

Rayleigh seems smart on top of being strong, so I think he probably was the mastermind/strategist behind many of Roger Pirates' exploits.

I think Rayleigh played a crucial role in helping Roger become the Pirate King, I mean the strategic part and everything else could all be thanks to Rayleigh, and from there came the Dark King, behind it all, he was the one truly orchestrating it, and without him, Roger would never have reached the Pirate King throne. On the other hand, Kaido is:

• Beast King
• Wisdom King.

And just like Roger and Rayleigh, Luffy and Zoro, Kaido and King share parallels. Rayleigh is called the Dark King, Zoro proclaimed himself the King of Hell, and Kaido named Alber as King.

You ever get tired at failing at basic narrative?
I literally have shown you evidence of every King title being strength-related. Do you think Ray's is an exception?
Another thing you are failing at is context, Rayleigh has been inactive for decades, drinking himself to sleep while Garp was active soldier.
Another thing you fail at is thinking Aokiji and Kizaru are equal, they are not. We have seen their performance against Whitebeard.
One is trying hard against him while the other is zapping him without even bothering to look at him.
One is sloppy to get blitzed by old man while the other is speed itself.

And no, Garp didnt take countless members of BBPs by himself, he had plenty of help.
Not like anyone else matters other than Kuzan and Shiryu who never teamed-up at the same time but always faced Garp in 1vs1.
And to get back at the narrative failure, that was Garp's send off gift, temporarily holding out vs Kuzan and Shiryu before getting rekt, just like Marco temporarily looked like hot shit before getting negged by King alone. Meanwhile, Rayleigh is still there and his performance against Kizaru aint a send off gift to make him look great before he is offed.
