Shanks losing his arm of course, pretty iconic moment. I think majority of OP readers were either moved or impressed by this scene.

Shanks ending the war just painted him in a very different light at the time. It really felt like he had the firepower to take on both the marines and BB lol. He also came to MF post-Kaido interaction and
Kaido was no where to be seen. So portrayal-wise, RHP just had the upper hand against the Beast Pirates. They either forced Kaido to back off through negotiation or via a short skirmish/threat.

According to vivre card Kaido only had king with him vs entire RHP crew. Also they did have a small fight. Anyways Kaido was at a clear disadvantage with only king.
Yes but I’m talking about this from the perspective of reading MF for the first time. The common takeaway was that the RHP bested the BP in one way or another from their interaction. Kaido only having King with him makes this feat less impressive though but this info only came years after MF.

Shanks letting the mountain bandits beat him up, showing Luffy that not everything requires a response and that moment shaped Luffy into the man he is today.

Was that the perspective at the time?

I simply got it as Kaido considering not worthy to go for Whitbeard if he had to go through another Yonko crew first.

Not that I understand the current common perspective of Kaido going with King alone from subjective wording on the vivre cards, either.

Either way, he didn’t get past Shanks and Shanks was able to immediately go to MF himself. Also Kaido was planning to enter the war, he’s risking himself to fight WB and the marines. I don’t think going through a single yonko crew compares to that risk lol

It's the opposite.

What was said at the time is that Kaido didn't have the balls to go for Whitebeard under normal circumstances (and neither did Whitebeard, for that matter): it's because it was a moment of weakness for Whitebeard that Kaido thought he would have a better chance duking it out at Marineford. Having to go through a healthy Yonko crew on the way there is similar to challenging healthy Whitebeard and would defeat the purpose, so he likely backed down (very likely since neither him or Shanks were hurt). At most there would have been a clash.

Shanks could immediately go to MF himself because he didn't really fight Kaido.
