Shanks could have easily stopped Yassop and the fact he showed no concern when Yassop was getting ready to shoot shows he was fine with it.

It's pretty messed up to play mind games with someone, let them go, then shoot them in the back when they start sailing away.

I don't hate Shanks it's just very out of character for him and it has made me like him less.
Yasopp had a point in doing what he did. Bartolomeo even found it weird that Shanks let him go, and if you read the chapter he clearly didn't learn his lesson. Yasopp was on business, even if a bit toxic. It's consistent with the writing we saw in chapter 1, the Red Hair pirates aren't saints.
But I don't understand why are you blaming Shanks for Yasopp's actions?
Did Luffy stop Zoro from kicking Loki? He did not. Do you blame Luffy for Zoro's actions?
Both the Straw Hats and Red Hair pirates are free people, doing what they want.
Nami said that he doesn't want to leave the kids behind at Punk Hazard, and Luffy followed Nami's demands. Law was surprised that Luffy is giving so much decision making to Nami when she is not even the captain.
Shanks let Yasopp make his own decision. If you want to blame someone, blame Yasopp.

He's a lame kind of character for the moment, but I expect him to be not as good as Luffy and his fans thinks he is. I hope he goes down on Buggy's hands when he realises that Roger was captured because Shanks did a pact with his daddy to be free. Roger knew it and didn't say anything about it because he was dying anyway, but he crossed the line when he told the WG about Roger's son. Luffy and Buggy will have a short alliance to beat him in which Buggy will awaken his fruit. After being beaten he will feel relieved and somehow forgiven by the shadow of his captain and his old friend.

This is all headcannon
see i hate the deadbeat bozo but i can get behind a scenario like this

it's a shame you're not writing this manga...

It doesn't really matter, it was still messed up that they made them think they were free, just to shoot them in the back. I would be fine if they killed Barto on the island but letting him go just to shoot him in the back, can only be seen as messed up because they had the opportunity to kill him earlier.

It isn't consistent with how Shanks has acted in the past. And also I never said Shanks was a complete Saint who does no wrong, but nothing in the story indicates he would do that.

There is a big difference between the two situations. 1. Luffy scolded Zoro after he did it and made it clear he didn't like what he just did unlike Shanks. 2. Luffy had no way of knowing Zoro was going to kick Loki but Shanks knew Yassop was going to shoot Barto's ship.

Their crew has a say in things but the captains word is always final. Think how many times Luffy has ignored what his crewmates have said or made a decision that one crewmate didn't like.

As a captain you are responsible for your crewmates actions so if you don't stop your crew from committing blatant insubordination then the bla.e is on you.

Shanks HAS to be strong, because he is Luffy's role model. That's his role in the story. You don't have to overthink it. He is your typical Gary Tsu character, and there is nothing wrong with that. Cliches are cliches for a reason. Because they work. Why is it so wrong to have one good, nice strong top tier in One Piece? Instead of finding out why he is strong, you should consider his role in the story and does he fulfill it well?
In my opinion, Shanks fulfills his role as Luffy's role model in the story quite well, therefore he is a great character. Simple as that.
I am 23 years old and I like his character. Do I have a childish mentality?
Like i said, the issue it not him being nice and strong, these are plenty of these type of characters in media, its the lack of foundation behind his strength that makes his role as a rolemodel feel cheap. Rolemodels are meant to be inspirational, and inspirational comes from ones ability to overcome challenges and still persevering. Take all-might from MHA for example. He turns in to a frail skeleton from pushing himself from a lifelong injury but still pushing himself to save people at the expense of his health. He carries societal pressure by hiding his weakness to to preserve his image as a symbol of peace. Deku admired All Might even before knowing this, but learning about his struggles added depth to his admiration.

Shanks doesnt have any of this depth, which makes Luffys admiration for him feel very shallow, its just him wanting to be cool like shanks.
Shanks sacraficed his arm, yet Oda has not shown this this have any sort of negative impact whatsoever. So even though his role is being luffys role model, he furfills this role in very surface level way. And saying "dont overthink it" is a copout. My hero academia is a kids show which doesnt take itself too seriously, and yet it still has the depth for it's shanks type character. One piece has been going on for 20+ years and somehow Oda has failed or hasnt even bothered trying to add any substance to the character.
