Character Discussion What's your Thoughs on Shanks's Character?

Power aside, he is a good character and many should follow his example, Use his power to keep thing balanced. Unlike some who abandon their allies while adding oil to the fire.
When the war in marindord was out of hand shanks Come in and used his reputation and also relation to CDs to end the conflict.
Sacrificed his dominant arm for the world by saving nika luffy. Without his sacrifice it's joyboy over.

As usual, I already expected the answers about Shanks to be mostly negative here, because it's trendy to hate on Gary Tsu characters.
People don't understand that cliches aren't bad. Cliches are cliches because they work. Gary Tsu characters can work well if they are done well.
Shanks is the reason Luffy became a pirate, and he is the one he most looks up to, therefore it is fine for the story to treat Shanks like a Gary Tsu character.
A badly done Gary Tsu character is someone like Oden. He may have been cool when we saw him the first time, but eventually his character left a bad taste.
It's okay to like Shanks even if he is a Gary Tsu. It's okay to like Shanks even if he has a few panels of screentime. Quality over quantity. No one has presence similar to Shanks in the story.
But of course, let's go against the wishes of the writer, and let's hate the character he wants us to like, because that's so cool. And it's not even forced like with Oden was. Shanks doesn't have one single "strongest man" title or "worst criminal title".

Shanks is giving me Gojo energy except that Oda actually loves him unlike Gege who despises Gojo to the very core, but both has insane portrayal and feats to hailed them as the "strongest".
But, just like Gojo's character, Shanks's character is literally non-existent. The archetypes of overpowered characters only works if they were a villain instead. If Shanks does turns out to be evil or perhaps working under the Gorosei somehow, that would make his character more interesting imo.
That's why I appreciated the moment where Shanks didn't give af about Yassop shooting Barto's ass down with his ship, cuz that's what pirates would do. Shanks in chapter 1 already established that he is a pirate, he doesn't play fair. I just wanted Oda to hop off the Shanks' dick glazing and actually give Shanks the portrayal and respect that Shanks actually earned.

A twin might have been cliche, true enough, but as soon as Film Red said Shanks was from the Figarland Family and then his vivre card that said Roger found a baby Shanks at God Valley, we should have expected Shanks to have a sibling.

He has some deeper seeds planted with the CD stuff and why he didnt want to go for the one piece till now, but so far there is not much character, more of cameo and plot device
Im in general not a fan of stoic background "but le power tho" characters (Thats why people like WB are the goat).
Im glad manga in general moved away from such characters, to cool for school. To a point that they even parody them like in sakamoto days or chainsawman. Shanks, while being a tad being intressted than his compariots of Mihawk and Dragon, seems like a relic of a old era of manga imo. Shanks has the additional baggage that oda clearly had plans for him from the beginning and trying to fit him into that role of generic big good

He's a lame kind of character for the moment, but I expect him to be not as good as Luffy and his fans thinks he is. I hope he goes down on Buggy's hands when he realises that Roger was captured because Shanks did a pact with his daddy to be free. Roger knew it and didn't say anything about it because he was dying anyway, but he crossed the line when he told the WG about Roger's son. Luffy and Buggy will have a short alliance to beat him in which Buggy will awaken his fruit. After being beaten he will feel relieved and somehow forgiven by the shadow of his captain and his old friend.
