I also find it too big of a coincidence that bird dance which was not KoH, did not have the overflowing aura around the blades. This just backs my hypothesis that the state is an absolute requirement for KoH, iirc we have yet to see a named attack thrown from that state NOT be KoH, we HAVE seen a named attack thrown when the aura was gone and it was "coincidentally" not a KoH attack.
Like I said the minute Zoro shows a KoH attack outside of this state I will call it something else, heck I'll even consider renaming it if he shows an attack from that state which isn't KoH, so forget even needing to show a KoH attack without it, he just needs to show a non KoH attack with it. That's more than fair. If he can't do either then it's simply his KoH state.
And sure you can use it to hype Lucci a bit, but then it oddly was deactivated without Lucci gaining any new injuries, so Zoro probably willingly deactivated for w.e reason, maybe Oda changed his mind...that fight was just dumb.

I can recall you and me debating this very scene & about KoH back in the KoH thread I made like 2 years ago. Iirc you had the exact opposite opinion back then, weird how our positions change with time.

KoH is the smoke AND CoC being used. Bird Dance was just CoC; while against Lucci, the state thing you talk about is just that smoke.
Zoro never had to go back to 2 sword style when the finisher was a 3 sword style move.

Isn't it funny , that No KoH attacks beat lucci but When KoH used nothing happened.

Endurance is finite and damage is cumulative, for all we know Zoro had chipped away at Lucci's endurance so much over the course of their fight that a non-KOH attack was enough to finish it when a KOH attack earlier into the fight wasn't.
Did I change my mind? I thought I agreed bird dance was never KoH but rather I was saying it was inadvertent CoC. I just didn't believe Zoro advertently was using CoC coating (he didn't change bird dance's name to some adCoC variant either) but I might be wrong on that point.

What Zoro had activated against Lucci was the exact same thing you see in the top and middle panels, when he goes to use an actual attack you see the streaks come out.
The minute Zoro shows a KoH attack without the aura around his blades I'll agree with your take, until then I'm not budging, there's no reason for me to believe anything else atm. The haki aura is a prerequisite to a KoH attack.

Doubt he tanked any attack let alone KoH. Both of them didn't have any significant injuries.
The state isnt nearly as important, as being in the state AND using CoC at the same time, which is what KoH attacks need.
The cqc exchange that he had with Lucci? Was just the smoke, w/o the CoC there.

So, let's assume he did activate KoH.
And, he definitely didn't use it on panel so we can't say Zoro used KoH. There is a difference between using and activating.

The only way it makes sense is if Lucci was not giving openings and Zoro deemed it a waste of energy. Only issue is he did a circus act while avoiding and blitzing Lucci....so everything else before it made no damn sense.
My only takeaway from that is Sanji gave Zoro extra motivation to lock in. Which is just such corny writing from Oda given Zoro wanted the fight to end quickly, Oda doesn't seem to understand that there's a shit ton of adults reading his comics, not just little kids.

Since pinzoro fans love to use anime as a reference, when zori vs Lucci happens u people will cry 
- Luffy abused AdCoC against Lucci
- King never used lunarian power against Admiral , he never tried anything.
- Zoro never used AdCoC against Kaidou

We cannot think that Oda showed Zoro without giving a simple serious attack and when we did not see him he used his strongest techniques. It's not logical. Zoro only used a serious attack against Lucci, that's what Oda conveyed.
- Sanji's words, more than a motivation, I think they represent part of the fandom that complained chapter yes, chapter also that Zoro had not yet defeated Lucci. In the end what Oda showed is that Lucci simply had to keep Zoro busy and that is why the fight lasted so long.
- Zoro didn't use the KoH either, that's something very easy to know, the first thing is because at no point was the name said and as they explained it doesn't make sense that in the middle of the fight he used the KoH but ended the fight with a normal attack. Besides, we saw those flames and small sparks long before KoH:
