When a fighter is a prospect with a career on an upward trajectory, they start accumulating a large number of fans coattailing their success.
As soon as they lose though?
More than half of those fans are likely to jump ship and start labelling them as overrated, or worse, a fraud.

Yes, garp and Koby are among my least my favorite characters, sengoku I’m indifferent about.
Garp is an incredibly poorly conceived character, just about everything about him is fanservicey and inconsistent. You don’t get to both fit the archetype of “fun goofy carefree” character while still being a shameless defender of slavery. At one point in time I’d have had hopes of oda reconciling his character, now I doubt it’ll ever happen. He’s an aged up luffy hamfisted into the upper echelons of marine leadership just ‘cause.
Koby is an even bigger useful idiot similarly forced onto a path of greatness because the plot demands it.
I’ll give them both their due credit as far as power level goes but they have awful character development compared to the admirals.

My thing is admirals are like the perfect op characters. They fit the tone perfectly. Which is ultimately a funny silly adventure story about people eating crazy fruits with powers and exploring the world, with a dark side at the same time. Its also just kind of refrences to various mythologies or things in pop culture,which is why they're all based on actors oda likes for example. We see them interact with eachother,we see them all deal with the consequences of the fucking evil regime they prop up, while seeing the consequences this leads to them.(ofc,Oda has kind of ruined this with fake out deaths, but I guess the fact that they even tried to kill their close friends is pretty heavy). Garp and Coby are just kind of meme characters imo. They don't really deal with the consequences of propping up an evil regime( obviously Garp refusing a promotion to an admiral is just a dumb excuse as well as him supposedly privately hating the celestials or whatever. Same with sword, who are basically just marines but they say they quit. Which is dumb imo) they're kind of just called heroes by the world, for reasons that don't even really make sense/aren't explained. And yes I'd say them not having fruits is part of the problem. Instead of giving them powers that are really interesting to watch in action, they just kind of punch hard,and sometimes they punch harder because they were born with conquerors haki(despite them not conquering anything ever).
Yep, well said, all of it. The "goofy, carefree" characters have no consequences, neither in-verse nor by the fanbase.

What's so appealing about Akainu to me is that he's a regular guy just doing his job, like it or not, not following any prophecy or special calling, no inheritance of any special bloodline (as far as we know), and yet he managed to kill both a "legend" and a Chosen One, and permanently scar the main character.
The rest is basically the reverse of what yonko fans, especially shanks fans seem to enjoy, "chosen" "conquerors" with the special ability to punch especially hard (because to date, that's effectively the only thing conqueror's really is) given to them at birth.

I don’t think Garp is the same as Koby, people are confusing things. Koby isn’t really a contradictory hypocrite like him and doesn’t have access to the information that someone on Garp’s standing or other high-ranking marines have. He will most likely fight the World Government the first time he sees and figure out the bigger picture of how unjust the nobles really are unlike bystander Garp.
Koby’s prophecy also wasn’t written in the stars, he came from nothing and still has no special connections. Just a cabin boy and Goofy’s first friend.

Koby should be a 7/10 character by the end of the series. Not Oda's finest work (that title probably goes to Doflamingo or Blackbeard) but very good regardless.
It's the same with Berserk. Lunkheads are ruining it with their winter arc sigma male nonsense
TikTok clowns ruin everything though. Which is why I basically only use tiktok to find memes and nothing else. It's a hellhole otherwise (and this goes for Twitter as well)

I’d argue Rayleigh is in the reverse situation of what Ndule said, people underrate him just because he’s a Zoro parallel. There’s literally not a single thing about the guy to hate nor downplay. They can’t have him on Sengoku or Garp’s level just because of this reason even when he has way better on-panel feats and portrayal than Sengoku lol.
Rayleigh is cool and I love his flashback of Roger...... but idk how I feel about his relationship with Luffy. It's kind of shallow and idk if it was the best choice in the world for Luffy to be trained by Rayleigh, and even more importantly zoro trained by Mihawk. Also, I wish that Rayleigh did something more to disguise himself because it just seems dumb to me that none of the Gorosei or Yonko really are trying to track this guy down who's not really living that lowkey...
