Unfair rating of Pain and Croc.
Akatsuki >>> Shichibukais for a reason
I put that note first for a reason.

Akatsuki are my favourite group of all time, and Pain is a big reason why. His dynamics within the akatsuki are great, his design, his powers etc. When I rated him I was rating him as a villain/antagonist to Naruto the MC. He got ruined the moment we find out he's shriveled up in a cave and he fell for typical Naruto talk no jutsu, reviving everyone he had killed in Konoha because of some wack speech about a book Jiraiya wrote (the same dude who he just killed without hesitation, his teacher/parent, but oh because it's coming out of Naruto's mouth it's so touching).

Crocodile was a better villain/antagonist for Luffy (and Vivi), than Nagato. He had a clear goal, he followed through with his plans, he was extremely cunning how he had been making the country fight itself while looking like the hero, and no amount of last minute bs could sidetrack him from his goal, he didn't start supporting Luffy at the end of the arc because of a heart to heart conversation.

Pain/Nagato was a few chapters away from being one of the greatest antagonists of all time, and then Kishi hit us with the usual Naruto mic skills.

This is what he did to Donald Trump!

so..... @Nidai_Kitetsu said i should check out this thread to show you younglings the greantness of yujiro hanma and why he is the best dad in the world. yujiro hanma father of baki hanma (protagonist) is considered by everyone in the world to be the strongest man in the world, he has shown off feats that would be considered impossible, such as: walking though lightning like its a breeze, snapping a kitana with your thumb, stopping an earthquake by slamming the ground and my personal favourite getting out of a submission my punching the ground away. he can also master any martial arts technique by looking at it once.

yujiro hanma is nicknamed ''the ogre'', because of the technique where he flexes the muscles in his back to make it look like a demons face, this technique makes him even stronger than he already is.

but, why is he such a great villain. well the entire point of the baki series is that baki must surpass his father after he
killed his mother
. so baki eventually meets with his did in the early parts of the series... and baki gets absolutely decimated.

it took another 3 parts to finally confront his father again. and by confronting i mean actually fighting him, he does meet up with his father at some points in the story. but.... slowly throughout the series baki seems to get less angry with his father and tolerating him more. even to the point that he teamed up with him in a tournament and after baki won his match with 1 attack he gave his father a high five.

yujiro is the perfect obstacle ive ever seen in a manga. because of the influence he has baki eventually finds out that he isnt much different from his father. and this really shows in their final match (Which lasted 50 chapters btw WTF), where baki eventually did lose again. but through the determination that baki showed during their match, he said that he sees baki as the strongest in the world.

yujiros story is the story of a man who lives in freedom, but with boredom at the same time. because he is the strongest in the world he has no challenges left, there is nothing left to excite him. except the thought that his son might surpass him the future. he puts his own son through heart breaking events (killing loved ones and friend, traumatizing events) all for the sole purpose of giving him a challenge. and when he finally had that final match he felt a sensation that he lost so many years ago. btw in some very very very rare panels you can see yujiros sadness through his maniacal persona.

now lets all praise the ogre.:finally::finally::finally:

Thanks man, great post.

I would like to add something here.

Yujiro is really different from other beloved villains. Most of the beloved villains have motives to create a perfect world, i.e. their motive is as noble as the heroes themselves.

Yujiro is nothing like that, he is a rapist, an abusive father, a wife beater. He doesnt have any noble cause behind his actions. Despite all this hateful actions, Yujiro is still loved by the fandom. Thats why he is a GOAT. He is loved by all no matter how evil he is.

-Muh Dream-sama
-Kids eater
-Keikaku man
-Pseudo Japanese restorationist Mummy
-Kaytlin Jenner/Pain toss up

Big Rape Man Hanma is entertaining, very entertaining, even more than some in the list but that's really all there is to him. But then again, that's his appeal, some could argue that makes him better.

I'm sorry. I think that on the list, no one came close to Griffith.

...imo Meruem is quite closer than the others, but Griffith's arc, The Eclipse, is too terrifying to forget. I dont know who's better between him and Johan Liebert.

Between "I sacrifice" and "The only thing all humanity equals in, is death."

Those two moments are extreme peak of character moment.

I liked Kira for being the most simplistic yet most interesting one. Not a generic god complex psychopath. I’m anime only so i don’t know of any villains beyond Diavolo sadly.
You're in for a treat with Pucci (pt 6) and Valentine (pt 7)

Without spoiling too much
Pucci is an incredibly interesting character. He's a priest that uses and abuses his position of power within a prison - plus he has arguably the most interesting ability in all of JoJo (excluding Valentine)
It's really impossible to spoil Valentine but he's part 7 and he's just. fucking. brilliant!

But yeah Kira is an excellent villain
