Character Discussion Who's a Better Character in your Opinion? Marco or Katakuri?

In terms of personality even if Oda quite screwed up with him in terms of his motives, character design and powers, I prefer Katakuri who's my favorite YC1.

Katakuri started good up until the Merienda after which everything went south.
Marco stayed the same (more or less) and has ways been cool.
So Marco for me.

Marco Is not really a character. The only thing he has Is the "orfan" thing but let's be serious: It's a vague at best.

Problem with Marco is that his design isn't particularly cool or memorable aside from his hair nor is his personality particularly interesting or developped.

Marco never got enough screen time to flesh out his character/backstory. He’s got a great ability, showed solid leadership, and generally seem like what you need from a right hand. He did fall short in the haki department a lot more then I initially thought tho.

That said Kata by far!! he was “him” for a hot second

Marco and Kata both serve different purposes in the story

Marco is support good like Rayleigh, he is meant to be likable and not hateable under any circumstances ever

Kata is antagonist evil like Kaido, he is the wall for the MC to overcome so you should be rooting against him but he also has parts that make you sympathize with him

Kata has the better design and focus, Marco has a greater story role overall (Marineford, Wano)

Overall I give it to Kat simply cuz he has the best fights and most hype of all YC1s bar Beckmann

The only trait marco has is that he´s vaguely nice or something, and it´s not even touching like with WB

Not a fair comparison imo.
While I kinda like Marco, he has too few appearances in the story, so I don't know him very well as a character, similar to Dragon.

Katakuri is fleshed out fairly well, and has an interesting twist to his personal quirk, has bonds to his family, has interesting abilities, so yes, in terms of character writing he definitely is a better character.

I like Kata more though.

I mean this is what it comes down to for most people.
Marco has sacrificed a lot as a character and lived through shit.
Kat has been given a lot more onscreen context.
