Powers & Abilities Why Blackbeard stopped using his claw weapon?

#1
We all know how the cerberus theories actually started.

Before the Thriller Bark arc, Shanks revealed to Whitebeard that his eye wound was from Base Teach, and after that point people started to speculate that Teach, who at the time was fighting barehanded, must be a zoan user so he caused that wound to Shanks with a zoan transformation that could give him an animal claw.

However a long time passed after the Thriller Bark arc, and we've seen that the Base Teach was actually a weapon user in the Fishman Island arc flashback.

So this revelation eliminated the question that how Base Teach gave a slash wound to Shanks in a combat without transforming into a zoan.

This weapon is actually not only an offensive advantage to Teach but it can also protect Teach if he manages to block a slash strike or any kind of other type of attacks that could cut or pierce him.

So the question is, why Teach stopped using his main weapon that actually wounded Shanks, if we assume that he did it with this weapon?

I believe there could be several reasons why, so I will present these options to you so you can decide which one is better or you can present your own answer on this thread.

- His weapon got destroyed during the Shanks fight.

Shanks hyped Base Teach's power even by mentioning Mihawk's name to WB so he actually compared Base Teach to Mihawk. So their fight must be a very tough one like the Shanks v Mihawk. It is possible that during a very tough fight Shanks destroys Teach's weapon, however it still doesn't explain why Teach didn't get a new one after the Shanks fight, I highly doubt that its hard to acquire a weapon similar to that.

- He left it after killing YC Thatch with it.

Perhaps he didn't want to remember killing Thatch, who was his friend. However it doesn't look like Teach is a sentimental type so this is a low possibility.

- He decided to use 3 pistols instead.

Still he could use both, nothing stops him from using both pistol and that weapon.

- He trusted on his increased CoA Haki level and new DF power.

I think this is possible. And I think people are sleeping on Darkness DF's abilities on non-DF users as well. He crushed a town, and even Burgess was scared of getting dragged by Teach's Darkness power. He also destroyed the gates at Impel Down and defeated the 1000 bazooka squad at Impel Down before finishing Hanyball, 1000 guards were all heavily armed. Jinbe even said that Teach clearing up the 1000 guards at Impel Down helped Luffy's escape group a lot.

I think another reason could be;

- He was preparing himself to use the Earthquake DF power.

Teach's weapon would be useless with Gura attacks, which operates with punches and grabbing techniques.

Teach's main plan was always stealing the Gura power so before that happens, he should have get use to fight with his punches and with grappling techniques (which he used on Sarquiss and Luffy), which actually make sense that why he stopped using his claw weapon to slash his opponents.

These Wolverine claws doesn't fit the use of both the Gura and the Yami. For the Yami you don't need short-range weapons since it's either a blocking, countering or long range type of fighting ability. For the Gura, you use it while tightening your fist, you can't use a weapon in this position. And putting the Gura effect at the end of the Wolverine claws like Whitebeard does with it bisento is useless since the objective of the bisento in this case is to hold back the enemy. With the Wolverine claws you hold him back 20 centimeters which is legitimalely meh.

As I see it Oda wanted to connect Shanks and Teach somewhat and he choose the scar he put on Shanks face. The weak point is that to patch it he had to give BB that particular weapon in a flashback so that we can understand how BB made that kind of scar to Shanks. Then of course that weapin was relegated in a few panels in 1 or 2 flashback to be never seen or talked about later.
