General & Others Why did Kaido spend 28 years hiding in Wano?

#86
Because he is smart and resourceful. The Gorosei were afraid of angering Kaido, thus acknowledging the threat he poses even on his own. This is further evident by the fact Orochi wasn't afraid of the WG having Kaido as his back up. And we know that Orochi wasn't naive; he had proper knowledge of the outside world, even knew about Vegapunk and the CP0 by virtue of negotiating with them, so the forces of the WG weren't foreign to him.

It's for the same reason that the Marine HQ gathered all of its forces to face Whitebeard. To be efficient. Same goes for Kaido, who wanted to amass enough forces to shift the odds largely into his favor.

Because the marines were scared of him so he could do whatever he wanted in his territory. His only real rival being big mom and Whitebeard his former crewmates. He never really had a true objective so he tried killing himself and failed. In his depression he decided to destroy the world but instead woke up Nika.

kaido's character is an enigma
you have a character that wants to die , thats looking for someone named joyboy to take him down
but you also have someone who clearly wants to conquer the sea, the wg , and change the entire world structure so he doesn't exactly just want to die......

honestly feels like a bunch of mumbo jumbo was thrown into his character later on.
Do not forget that he was selling weapons to the WG that he seemingly wanted to fall:saden:

No one has the right to call Fraudo "smart and resilient".
He is a pitiful retard. His stupidity rivals the stupidity of Trash Ketchup and team rocket from pokémon anime.
Fraudo never did a single smart thing in his whole life.
-His so called "army to have a war against the whole world" are the gifters and the numbers, and we have all seen that they are worthless chumps. A smart person would never believe they could achieve such a thing with those pieces of garbage.
-After he went to rooftop,he spent the whole time distracted by fights while his henchmen and empire were getting destroyed from under his nose and he never seemed to give a damn about it. A true leader would never do such a thing.
-All the time he lived in shitty country,he never knew there was a person who could read the poneglyphs and a ancient weapon right under his nose.

No matter how strong Kaido himself was, he had the weakest Yonko crew and needed time to build up his forces.
Wano served as a good fortress for that, giving him Wano samurai as allies while he's there.

Of course Kaido didn't really have an actual thought out plan. At the rate he was heading, he'd be really old by the time his Smile army amounted to anything substantial.

I thought 1 Yonko Crew = Marine + 7 Warlords
Barely beat WG.
Other Yonko come to crush you while you are weak and take all the spoils.
Nothing personnel kid.

Yonko do not just oppose the WG, they also oppose each other.
It is supposed to be a stalemate until someone other than them comes in to break it.

Is pretending to be completely obtuse not getting old yet?

Because he didn’t want to get captured again. Imagine what that nasty Vegapunk was doing to him all that time! Even his buddy King kept on hiding his face because he didn’t want someone to report him to the WG and get sent back to the lab to make more lunarians.

Honestly though, it was just Oda’s policy of trying to keep the top tiers separate in their own corners. It just leads to a mess because it makes all the statements about Kaido look empty.
Turns out the only reason he survived so long was because he set up shop in a place thats hard to get to, and those that could actually kill him just never had the opportunity. Unfortunately, pretty typical of Oda post TS.
